OT: Individual Post paid voice plan on Airtel - Views needed

Hi folks, Anyone with experiences on the Kencell/Celtel/Zain/Airtel post paid scheme? I'm seeking to enroll on a personal post paid plan; primarily for voice use. I occasionally roam and data access is simply for light use browsing. I have received one nasty evaluation from a colleague on the same; citing weird charges & unaccounted for bill items. I need a couple more reviews to decide whether to enroll or not. PS: Limit the discussion to Kencell/Celtel/Zain/Airtel only. Tony.

Airtel (Fmr zain) have been on their postpaid for a couple of years. Everything is done by the book and now the rates are great !!! My bills are itemised and Emailed to me ...what else do I need? Go for it !! Alvin On Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 2:54 PM, Tony Likhanga <tlikhanga@gmail.com> wrote:

@Tony, yes weird charges (SOMETIMES) and when you complain your bill wont come in on time (to give you time to forget the issue), come next bill same old same old. at one point the charged me for calls to customer care which they say is free!!! and some SMSs to weird numbers. If you are on blackberry you will find additional charges like 'GPRS access' whereas you pay an all in one BIS access fee!!! On 12/1/10, Tony Likhanga <tlikhanga@gmail.com> wrote:

I appreciate the responses so far, keep them coming. @Ken, the discrepancies; are they something to make me dash to the nearest railway line? What's the worst % of the expected bill you've ever experienced? Any nasty surprises like being enrolled to club 20 without consent? Getting billed for promotional SMS while roaming/on one network? A standing monthly charge on top of the bill while roaming? Denial of service after some usage cap, despite being reasonably well below the deposit?

Have been on Z-Control(don't know its succesor), and the service has been super. The voice quality is not any pathetic, in the experience I have used Airtel since it was Kencell. You don't get 'hidden' charges or enrolled to queer promotions without your consent. The only problem is if your bill payment is delayed, they'll reflect it on the next billing month. This is to mean, if you were to pay your bill on 25th and you postpone it to 15 of the next month, you might get an additional amount(the previous bill + current bill). How that one is done, beats my logic yet that (new) month's cycle is not fully utilized. I hope with the new management, the billing will be as detailed as or closer to what KPLC has. @Tony, the discrepancies wont make you dash to a railway line, usually 2 to 3 sock but it happens once in a while (they call it System error). The best secret is to always 'study' your bill when you receive it to get a grip on your average spend. This will make it easy to spot any discrepancy. if you know your average bill to be say 4k and you get a bill above this....raise hell. The voice service itself is the best. Thank you all for the feedback. I've made a decision: I'll go for it. Tony

I have used that company for ages now. I think since 2001 on Postpaid. At some point, I migrated my number from personal postpaid to corporate postpaid. During this migration, they lost my preferred 10 numbers (remember they had that??) but I did not realize it, until like 4 months after. When I realized this, I raised the issue with them and they promised to look at it from the back-end. Two months down the line, they gave me a credit note covering all the calls I had made to preferred numbers but which had been charged at normal rate as opposed to the subsidized rate they had given. Can you imagine that?? I have proof!! As Alvin intimates, that company does everything by the book! Please go for it. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!
