Hallo Skunks I am about to spend some money on a laptop, not more than 60k. It has been my understanding that Intel core 13 is better in processing than Core 2 Duo. Today a certain techie wanted to dispel this, saying that the Dell Inspiron 1545(Core 2 Duo) would be better than the Dell Inspiron N5040(Core i3 2.66GHz with 3MB Cache) which is currently being sold by Safaricom at 52k. I am not much of a developer, I do simple wordpress css and php dev for my site and other sites I run. Most of the stuff I do is blogging, reading (I can have upto 30 tabs of browser open) and ofcourse simple image editing for use on the blogs. Would this be a good buy? -- Regards, Martin Gicheru|Business Development|Techweez Solutions Email ID: martin@techweez.com | Tel:254721906171 | Website: http://www.techweez.com | Skype ID: martingicheru | Twitter ID:martingicheru | Gtalk: martin@techweez.com

I would go with a newer processor anyday. Other than raw power, the other tech packed into it may be useful in future. For instance windows 8 consumer preview doesn't support some older intel processors due to some mundane capability. On Tue, Jun 26, 2012 at 11:31 PM, Martin Gicheru <martin@techweez.com>wrote:

ua workload requires Pentium generation processor but am imagining someday u might decide to do virtualisation if that will happen i would advise u go for i3s 5or i7s from my experience they work best for 64bit virtualization. On 6/26/12, Martin Gicheru <martin@techweez.com> wrote:

Hi Mark, i5 has Turboboost i3 doesnt: http://freepress.intel.com/community/news/blog/2010/11/30/what-is-turbo-boos... Core 2 duo is old and inferior. Look at Hard Drive speed (RPM) , RAM Speed (Mhz) and Bus Speed as well All these work together. The lower you go on price -while focusing on processor only- the higher the chances that the manufacturer is compromising these. Benchmark with high end specs like: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-EliteBook-8460p-Notebook.57322.0.html - and leverage with an affordable machine. Rgds, Humphrey.
