When it comes to tech I find newer is always better.

Core 2 Duo Phased out by intel
Core i series of processors feature an integrated "north bridge" hence intergrated GPU functionality and all other mambo jambo that NBs used to house

Core Is (esp the modern 2nd Gen) are better than the dinosaur core 2 duos

Hi Mark,

i5 has Turboboost i3 doesnt: http://freepress.intel.com/community/news/blog/2010/11/30/what-is-turbo-boost
Core 2 duo is old and inferior.

Look at Hard Drive speed (RPM) , RAM Speed (Mhz) and Bus Speed as well
All these work together. The lower you go on price -while focusing on processor only- the higher the chances that the manufacturer is compromising these.
Benchmark with high end specs like:  http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-EliteBook-8460p-Notebook.57322.0.html  - and leverage with an affordable machine.

Rgds,
Humphrey.

would advise u go for i3s 5or i7s from my experience they work best
for 64bit virtualization.
