IMHO, Nokia deserves some credit for taking such a step, given the plunge in sales/market share in smartphones. -- If the prices are not ridiculous, I would consider such a device from this partnership. I can't deny Elop did make a bold move, but the ramifications will only be truly evident as the clock ticks on. Three-horse race it is...we'll see how that goes...

We give them credit for finding out that the platform was burning, then take it away afetr they jumped on to another burning one

Just what Microsoft needed to kick off. Now apple and google have a formidable threat

I dont think you can say that just ye. Nokia have great hardware no doubt...and people are moving to Android, unless they integrate Xbox Live to the phones (Like the Dell phone). But trust me, its like Yahoo all over again. Going to partner with some big company producing ZERO results On Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 6:07 PM, James Nzomo <kazikubwa@gmail.com> wrote:

one thing is for sure Google are pretty pissed off ! evident by the tweets of the senior guys. Nokia have a strong brand, distribution, customer service, great Ads no hardware company can match esp in emerging markets Now all they need is to offer affordable smartphones and they will gain back the lost marketshare Given a Nokia going @ 15k and a Huawei going @ 8k with similar features i strongly think most people would go for the Nokia. And i think Win Pho 7 is pretty good also On Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 6:07 PM, James Nzomo <kazikubwa@gmail.com> wrote:

Thats a symbiotic relationship to rekon with. Nokia does what it does best -> Make mobile hardware Microsoft does what it does best -> Make software Merge the two and what do you get?

what is the market share of windows mobile? and how many apps already available? thought iphone and android are already way ahead but could be wrong On 11 February 2011 18:19, James Nzomo <kazikubwa@gmail.com> wrote:

@marto, I think I'll take a different road in your case. I need something that syncs with my gmail on the fly, lets my gf know where I am on Latitude (ok, she knows my lat/long but she's not that paranoid), syncs all my sms and call logs to gmail...hell, its ecosystem vs. ecosystem. I can't imagine having to go back to something@live.com for that. At the same time, I bet with WP7 I would max out my smartphone experience paired with a computer running M$. Damn! The problem here is Nokia have locked themselves to the M$ ecosystem. If I could have Android on Nokia I'd die harder with them. Honestly I don't care what the badge is, it could even be Toyota. The phone OS and how it integrates with other software experiences around me is what matters most. I wouldn't be surprised if Google retaliates in some way by having sections of the Googlesphere only accessible to Android phones. I urge you to consider the scenario as *WP7 vs Android vs IOS4*. That's where the war is. When you compare them purely from the software standpoint, Google is ahead of the pack. Apple sales guys are gritting teeth and shitting bricks because Android does not have to have that 'exclusivity' tag. If I want to roll simple, I'll have the Huawei U8150. If I want floss, I get something like the Atrix. Win-win. Guys and gals, if I get a more compelling proposition, I'll change my tune...

I could also add that from a developer standpoint, if we were to vote on who would put finger to keyboard for which of the 3 platforms, the outcome would be Sudan-like :)

@haggai WP7 works with gmail as well,i don't think you are entirely locked (every company tries to lock in users anyway, even Google, facebook and apple -it's business) and not everyone's needs are same,if you think you can't do without an android not everyone thinks so,not everyone needs all those features mentioned and maybe wp7 or wp8 (nokia have not said exactly which Win Pho they are working with) may have something that makes one person prefer it over android Nokia are also having maps adopted so it's not al M$ consider this also (only few months after launch) http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2011/02/04/new-windows-phone-7-sdk-downloaded-al... developer interest can only shoot up after this announcement and that counts for something! my guess is Nokia know what they are doing On Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 6:38 PM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:

Sawa, but it's Nokia vs the maany phone models running Android and its derivatives. I think I'll adopt a wait-and-see attitude on that one. This helps get things into perspective: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Android_devices

I think it is a Win win situation for both, especially for Nokia. In one stroke they have already gained something that they had HUGE problems with before thanks to their fragmented OS offerings -- *DEVELOPERS*

Oh crap, Stephen Elop was M$. MAybe he is a mole in Nokia who knows. Anyway seriously, Nokia seem to be trying to recover from their biggest blunder which was of trying to close developers to their old symbian system. They even purchased QT (A serious C++ IDE) and tried to encourage people to develop symbian in C++ with QT for Nokia. It seems like this was a mistake, maybe very few people were willing to learn the ropes of the new systems. Nokia have nothing to lose hardware wise. IF M$ doesn't work, they ll go Android. However, they will never recover the few developers the drop right now( both symbian and java devs). And this may well lock them in M$ Forever. Another unfortunate thing, theyve joined up with a mobile phone non-starter and this may actually drive phone users to android et al. But all in all, i guess they have their maths right, only time will tell, maybe android's legal issues will take it down and lo and behold, now M$ will have taken over the tech world, On Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 10:02 PM, Paul Kevin <paultitude@gmail.com> wrote:

Hmmm. That almost lends credence to the now-not-so-crazy notion that someone quit working under Ballmer to go to Nokia to bring the two companies together.
