hi all it appears to me that we have increasingly turned this into a space to gripe. leading to a member wondering why anyone bothers to bring their website for review. is this the best we can do and be? we are hostile to people's shortcomings; even pointing out member's spelling mistakes. we, and i include myself, have tended to be quick to cut each other down. (and while thinking about this, i realized the tone of a recent post could have been polite and will be sending an apology off list. or should i do this on list?) what if our interest was to reach out as opposed to shoot down? is it possible to end this trend where members associated with particular organizations "lurk" on the list? can we reach out to industry players and say blog about whatever products they are bringing to the market having interviewed them? could we appreciate an idea and be understanding when its execution has hurdles? i fear for as long we are outside looking in, what we take for influence is nothing but hubris. a favorite TED talk is the Steve Jobs, 2005 Stanford Commencement Address, How to live before you die, http://goo.gl/aHefs (31MB). At the end he advices us to stay hungry, stay foolish. and that is a mantra we could do with as skunks. -- age is an issue of mind over matter. if you don't mind, it doesn't matter - mark twain

Amanya, This would be a very positive step ... Towards a building a community of peers or that of peer reviews and not "peer putdown" I would like to go further and request the organisers to consider having some monthly meetups ... Skunkworks used to have them ... Where we can all grow together Thanks Agosta Liko Founder @ www.verviant.com and www.pesapal.com On 8/4/11, amanya <whynnot@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi all, I agree with Amanya. A divided house cannot rule. We should focus more on uplifting others than bringing them down. We all start somewhere and I think it is good when we correct others with gentleness and love. It is through this that we will be able to be an industry and not a service to other established industries. At times we are very fast to criticize ISPs and other companies that offer us services while it is very evident we have never been in the running of such companies to know what the challenges they face each day so that we can enjoy the services. In my opinion, I think this group should rise to the point of suggesting new technologies that will make such service provides improve in their operations. You will never correct anyone with criticism. And who knows whatever you are doing to someone today might catch up with you at some point in life. Feels like a family group hug moment. Although in a family you have personalities that are accepted for who they are. Where one knows who points out spelling mistakes, who is never positive, who never says anything , who comes out to speak when an issue is brought up In keeping with the spirit, kama nimekukosea. True. I'm also a guilty party, firing off quick, not well-thought-out responses, thinking about it later and realizing I was taking out my bad day on someone else. Nowadays I only reply if I have something positive to contribute, but I must say I read almost every post and learn something new almost every day. That said, maybe we should revive the meetups - once you're putting faces to names (sorry, email addresses) you get to be more civil online. Wisdom, @Phares is already doing a great job with the meetups at i-hub, I have attended a few and I must say they are very insightfull, we have great talent on this list and we should not neglect sharpening each other, this is positive energy , great men recognize their mistakes and correct them, the result is always a great legacy. hi all
it appears to me that we have increasingly turned this into a space to gripe. leading to a member wondering why anyone bothers to bring their website for review. is this the best we can do and be?
we are hostile to people's shortcomings; even pointing out member's spelling mistakes. we, and i include myself, have tended to be quick to cut each other down. (and while thinking about this, i realized the tone of a recent post could have been polite and will be sending an apology off list. or should i do this on list?)
what if our interest was to reach out as opposed to shoot down? is it possible to end this trend where members associated with particular organizations "lurk" on the list? can we reach out to industry players and say blog about whatever products they are bringing to the market having interviewed them? could we appreciate an idea and be understanding when its execution has hurdles?
i fear for as long we are outside looking in, what we take for influence is nothing but hubris.
a favorite TED talk is the Steve Jobs, 2005 Stanford Commencement Address, How to live before you die, http://goo.gl/aHefs (31MB). At the end he advices us to stay hungry, stay foolish. and that is a mantra we could do with as skunks.

Hi all, I agree with Amanya & Agosta in principle and I think Skunkworks needs to be a place of brutal honesty with a redemptive window. By the time a skunk(ette) writes about their bad experience , it's a great window for the grieving party e.g. a service provider to get the brutal truth that if it was to go through their customer service department ,up to the HOD/Director, they would never get the honest truth. That means the aggrieved party needs to not just complain with bitterness, but t state the facts honestly ,but with respect. If you are on this list and your organization had been accused, don't just keep quiet, respond on skunk works and not just for PR but with getuine intrest and concern. For you the aggrieved party, once you are sorted, tell the skunks(ettes) that you have been sorted. If you have a though on what the wrongful party can do, just email them off/on list. Case in point, 2 days ago I wrote about my experience with Zuku internet and they responded. The Service delivery Manager called me and also the head of Customer service we spoke at length. The following day I was sorted. That was positive energy from the Skunks(ettes) army. Am only remaining with thanking the Zuku team on list for hearing my cry. I would also like to thank the zuku team......but I dont have much to be thankful about. Their fibre link is extremely slow between 4pm to midnight after which the speeds starts picking again. I actually called and asked them whether they can put me back on the wi-max caz it was actually more reliable but was told that they had already shut down the nearest base station. Anyone from the zuku team who can help? or can at least tell me how long this is likely to go on.
