In yesterday's newspaper, I saw Orange have an offer, for the Samusung Galaxy S Plus at 3k a month for 2 years. Am not sure how the metrics work, but it seems interesting. Regards, On 17 August 2011 12:59, Kevin Omondi <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

When it comes to which is the better phone, its more of a personal interest than anything, since if you look at the comparison, there isn't much difference about the two and if any, its negligible - Trust your instincts and go with the one you think is good - for me, an iphone is still more superior, though nearly all the parts are actually made by Samsung for Apple ./Ok3ch On Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 1:04 PM, Dennis Karigi <dkarigi@gmail.com> wrote:

Okech Looking at that list objectively I would think otherwise, the Samsung just beats the iphone 4 on many fronts except a few e.g Camera and as you said, if Samsung makes the parts for apple, why would they build an inferior product for theirs ? I however agree with you on this one, its personal preference at the end of the day Kev On Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 3:12 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

I think Samsung was the company to beat Apple, if it actually went to serious R&D and went to the market first - The issue right now is that everyone thinks they are copying Apple, even if they are not, since Apple gets first into the market and markets well. Its actually the only company that is doing over 200% rise in handset sales so I still think they have a chance, but with alot of these anti-trusts?? OK, I have digressed, I love the iPhone4 more although it looks inferior in most fronts :-) ./Ok3ch On Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 3:16 PM, Kevin Omondi <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

Looking at that list objectively I would think otherwise, the Samsung just beats the iphone 4 on many fronts except a few e.g Camera and as you said, if Samsung makes the parts for apple, why would they build an inferior product for theirs ?
I however agree with you on this one, its personal preference at the end of the day

When it comes to which is the better phone, its more of a personal interest than anything, since if you look at the comparison, there isn't much difference about the two and if any, its negligible - Trust your instincts and go with the one you think is good - for me, an iphone is still more superior, though nearly all the parts are actually made by Samsung for Apple

I keep saying that to me, HTC have more potential, they came in later than Samsung, but are now number three, and yes, their devices do not look anything like the Apple ones. HTC are the majority owners in the fancy Beats by Dre.

The iPhone 4 was introduced in 2010 and is more than one year old. The Galaxy S Plus is just a few months old. Given the pace at which smart-phone technology advances, we should be comparing the 2. It is true Samsung makes most parts for Apple, so does other manufacturers. It is not a big deal. Did you know Range Rover engines are manufactured by Ford? But maybe it is not the parts that make iPhones unique, it is the fact that Apple can control the hardware and software side of the experience. And create an ecosystem around their devices. Also Samsung gets to make their phones from what remains of the parts Apple ordered. But it the end it is a personal preference. Some prefer the iPhone, others the copycat devices.

I'm actually surprised number one made it to the list and appears to have two usable "features" than the iPhone, how things change!!!! On Thu, Aug 18, 2011 at 1:13 AM, James Nzomo <kazikubwa@gmail.com> wrote:

Guys, These are highly normative issues. There is nothing explicit about user experience... e.g. I hate the android keyboard. I'd rather have an iPhone 3GS than a HTC EVO 4G... That's my *opinion*. It's the classic Ubuntu vs FreeBSD vs Fedora argument. No one is wrong, no one is right. Some of these are tagged to a person's personality... I may prefer an iPhone because it will sync with iTunes. I may prefer an android phone because it syncs with my Google Calendar. At the end of the day, many of these arguments make for good humor but you'll never be right or wrong. Simple example, my last experience with Android (Froyo) & iOS -Android had SMS's limited to 200 per thread - this is unlimited in iOS. +1 for iOS. - Nothing to do with screen size/4G etc, a real irritation though. - iOS can't easily sync to my Google Calendar - get double entry's - +1 for Android - Android Keyboards are generally horrid to use - +1 for iOS. - Google integration makes it easy for Picasa etc +1 for Android. - Numerous free apps+1 for Android - Higher quality apps +1 for iOS. Kindly note that I got rid of my android device because of contact syncing glitches and the keyboard - and my iOS device because of the poor battery life... It's all subjective! -- With Regards, Phares Kariuki | T: +254 720 406 093 | E: pkariuki@gmail.com | Twitter: kaboro | Skype: kariukiphares | B: http://www.kaboro.com/ |

For the 200 SMS thread limit, one can deselect "Delete Old Messages (as limits are reached)". The default limit is set to 200. On Thu, Aug 18, 2011 at 10:17, Phares Kariuki <pkariuki@gmail.com> wrote:

For what its worth am back on Symbian Anna. I find it works great for me. I couldnt care much about a million apps on iOS. I dont use iTunes nor Google Calendar. Just my preference, I use mostly use... -psiloc World traveller (hotel booking, flights, Global WiFi, weather updates, trip planning, currency convertor, world clock), -Nokia Maps is awesome for Navigation (maps stored locally on device) and its pretty accurate An app i play with between destinations... -Nokia 3D world.. Cant explain, you gotta run the app to see what it can do http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/07/04/the-world-in-your-hands-with-nokia... Plus everything else I need to do. I am hoping to check out MeeGo (Nokia N9) when it comes out in a couple of weeks. http://swipe.nokia.com/ ----- "Kevin Omondi" <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

No bluetooth file transfer. No MMS. No Flash (even fp lite so forget about youtube and other vid sites until they adopt html5). No multi tasking (a problem solved in 1961 and which even win3.1 is capable of) Touches of death No upgradable memory. No changing the battery unless u open the device Over 9000 yellow spots issues Restrictions on how to program for and use the device even tho u own it. And yet Apple is still manages to sell billions of these devices for the price of a kidney <- true story IF I EVER LEARN THE SECRET BEHIND THIS FEAT OF MARKETING I WILL RULE THE WORLD! >:D By the way all hail symbian. Iphone 7 will have upgradeable memory and will be available in pink and yellow and so forth No wonder apple has more chums than the US government On Thu, Aug 18, 2011 at 3:40 PM, James Nzomo <kazikubwa@gmail.com> wrote:

No changing the battery unless u open the device Over 9000 yellow spots issues Restrictions on how to program for and use the device even tho u own it.
And yet Apple is still manages to sell billions of these devices for the price of a kidney <- true story

By the way all hail symbian. It allowed for multitasking from the very beginning on an embeded device.

Guys,
These are highly normative issues.
Simple example, my last experience with Android (Froyo) & iOS
-Android had SMS's limited to 200 per thread - this is unlimited in iOS.
@Phares,
So you are back to Symbian, like me? :)

- Apple iPhone 4 16GB: *Kes. 30,499.00* - Apple iPhone 4 32GB: *Kes. 39,999.00*
Considering the avarage price of a top notch smartphone in Kenya....30k? and you dare claim we are hating because of price?

The real cost unlocked, in the US: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC603LL/A?mco=MjI4NTM2NTM 16GB 649$ (excluding tax and shipping) 32GB 749$ (excluding tax and shipping) Incidentally I wonder how much the 8GB iPhone 4 rumoured to be coming soon will cost. The dual core android phones (HTC Sensation, Galaxy SII) cost ~ 550 - 650$ -- Josiah Mugambi On Wed, Aug 24, 2011 at 2:34 PM, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:
