This is funny : Doom and Duke were controversial computer games?

And these are too funny. What were the coders/designers thinking? :-)))))))) BMX XXX : Knocked out a sub-standard BMX sim? No problem - just put lots of over-endowed topless female characters in it and change the title to something risqué. This shocker brought in nudity to replace playability - you could even unlock footage of strippers - but it didn't impress major US games sellers like Wal-Mart, which promptly pulled the title from its shelves. Bully (Canis Canem Edit) : If you want to kick off a little controversy before a game has even hit the shelves then you can do worse than calling it 'Bully' and showing footage of the protagonist punching another pupil. Re-named Canis Canem Edit (Latin for dog eat dog) in this region - this game was not nearly as controversial as the hype suggested. Still, that didn't stop anti-bullying groups giving it a sound kicking and probably a wedgie as well. Carmageddon : Carmageddon's brush with controversy came about thanks to its focus on the running over of pedestrians. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) took exception to the blood and gore that was splashed about throughout the game and denied it a certificate. It took 10 months for that decision to be overturned, with a modified version which saw victims spurt green blood sold in the interim. http://tech.uk.msn.com/gaming/photos.aspx?cp-documentid=149689974&page=2

There was also IDCLEVXX in DOOM II, where XX is the level you wanted to jump to. Since I got stuck on level 3, I would simply jump to like level 10 and let everyone marvel at my skills then. Who remember Blood and Carmen? I think the Carmen game can still be used to teach Geography today.

And Gentlemen, to add the the flavours of game development, what would a game be without WEEAAPONS! lol! I think DUKE is the funniest. :-)) Top 10 game weapons : - BFG 9000 (Doom) : The Big Fragging Gun, as it's known before the 9pm watershed, is an icon of gaming weaponry. This beast of a gun fires balls of green plasma that are capable of destroying any demon in a single hit. It is, quite simply, the business. A direct hit causes between 100-800 hit points of damage. Further damage is caused by 40 invisible rays of death, which are emitted by the player in the direction of fire. Without this gun it's doubtful some of the video game weapons in our top ten list would even exist. BFG 9000, we salute you. - Shrink Ray (Duke Nukem 3D) : We were sad to hear of the recent demise of the Duke. His latest outing, Duke Nukem Forever, was canned last year after more than a decade in development hell. During his reign the Duke introduced us to a brilliant selection of weapons. The Shrink Ray (or Shrinker) is one of the most memorable. This alien gun does exactly what it says on the tin, reducing Pig Cops and other foes to a couple of inches in height. As they run around like angry mutant mice, the Duke then raises his boot and stomps them flat. As he would say, "Hail to the King, baby." - Rocket Launcher (Quake) : The Rocket Launcher is the defining weapon of the first Quake game. As well as its sheer power - it could kill an enemy within several feet of the initial blast - the Rocket Launcher introduced the world to rocket jumping. The weapon quickly became a favourite in online deathmatches, with players leaping around the map while dispatching deadly rockets. The rate of fire was blisteringly fast. Directly hit players flew into the air and were often blasted again before they touched the ground. Brutally efficient. http://tech.uk.msn.com/gaming/photos.aspx?cp-documentid=152083753&page=7 On Thu, Mar 18, 2010 at 11:48 AM, David Njuki <njukey@gmail.com> wrote:

Dorman's coffee - Sarit underground... They allow guys with laptops...

Awrite! The following are the natural issues to consider: - When? Maybe guys could comment here on the best possible date, but for me April 3/4 sounds good... - How many? Since it's held in a public location it could be a no-frills event i.e. guys sort themselves out gastronomically, but I'd need to know so as to plan for the networking gear...on this note I'll put up a sign up form for guys to fill within the day (going offline in a bit) - Virtual food: what games shall we play? A variety is good, FPS, RTS, driving games etc - An alternative venue suggestion would also be welcome in case we overshoot venue capacity...since we know the guys on this list aren't few :) Anything left out? Feel free to chip in and we make this a reality! On Thu, Mar 18, 2010 at 1:10 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:
