Cisco PoE and Ubiquity Nano M5

Listers, I'm planning to use the PoE functionality in the Cisco equipment to power the Nano stations. Im doing a wireless bridge over two buildings LAN's. Before I undertake the mission, are there any limitations? Kind Regards Peter ------------ Don't wait for success; hunt it down like there's no tomorrow.

If the Cisco equipment supports the PoE class of the Ubiquiti Nanostation, then there is no problem. Just the right voltage and current is what matters. On 23 October 2014 18:48, Peter Osotsi <peter.osotsi@gmail.com> wrote:

POE is standard. You are good to go. On Oct 23, 2014 7:10 PM, "Odhiambo Washington via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

No! This will not work! :) Cisco PoE standard is active 48V, 802.3af. Ubiquiti Nanostations are passive +24VDC PoE. Ubiquiti makes an adapter that allows a Ubiquiti device to use 802.3af PoE: http://www.ubnt.com/accessories/instant-8023af-adapters/ You would need one on every radio. Newer Ubiquiti products in the Titanium line, like the RocketM5-Ti and RocketM2-Ti are 802.3af and some of the newest Unifi APs are 802.3af as well...but most of the AirMax line is 24V passive PoE. ᐧ On Thu, Oct 23, 2014 at 9:24 AM, reuben wazwa via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

I saw this somewhere: Valid source. The Ubiquiti NanoStations are not 802.3af compliant. You will require a *Ubiquiti Instant 802.3af outdoor Adapter* <http://www.4gon.co.uk/ubiquiti-instant-8023af-outdoor-adapter-p-5196.html>. This allows you to power your device on an 802.3af compliant POE switch. Alternatively, use the supplied Ubiquiti PoE-24 POE Adapter with our optional mains cable to power from a mains point or a suitable Ubiquiti tough switch. - See more at: http://www.4gon.co.uk/ubiquiti-nanostation-m5-mimo-p-4733.html#sthash.dW2vzQ... Kind Regards, Wilson./

Now, depending on how many devices you are looking at, it might just make a lot more economic sense to invest in Ubiquiti ToughSwitch and cascade that to your Cisco. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 "I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler."
