Hi Skunks, Those of you in the Telco world, is data traffic also subject to lawful interception?

Anything is subject to lawful interception:sms, voice, data. However, this is a prerogative of the relevant authorities. Telcos normally may be required to place them by law but to the best of my knowledge, they are currently not bound. For data, the L.I.G. can be placed in the core network to sniff active data sessions, access methods, access attempts, etc basically just like any packet tracer but with more detail....and extremely powerful.. ./bernard On Tue, May 4, 2010 at 7:59 AM, John Doe <fivepings@gmail.com> wrote:

I have very good reason to believe they are bound, perhaps not by law, but by a ministerial directive. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

Ministerial directives are also part of the law since they cannot be issued from a vacuum. My thoughts! --

LI also involves collection of XY information of the target, which realtime or near realtime based on triangulation and who they are communicating with. Most LI systems will also be able to capture SSGN and SGSN sessions information for IM check out www.nice.com or www.verint.com. It is my belief that KIXP is included in LI, could be wrong. IIRC, all Service Providers are.

Very much...but depending on the Authorities... Last month we witnessed google..(The biggest internet player) withdraw from China... just because the China Authorities wanted Google to abide by their lawful interception of censorship of Search results... so depends... we saw Bitange last month also imposing such on sms....to cub malice or incitement by sms

So to answer john Doe, data traffic can be subjected to lawful interception but currently none of the telcos have implemented LIGs on data core network. ./bernard On Tue, May 4, 2010 at 10:18 AM, Josy Ngatia <josyveros@gmail.com> wrote:
