MX records issues: please advice
Hi all, I need some advice. I changed domain hosts on 30th and I wanted to point my MX records to Onecom who are hosting my local server (exchange). Did that Tuesday... When you ping, it shows onecom IP. However no mails are coming in from outside. I have sent myself mail from gmail and it returns a mail delivery error as below: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 relay not permitted (state 14). I am aware that propagation of my mail domain will take time (up to 72 hours) but I seem to still be having a problem. is this still a propagation issue? Please advice. Al

*550: Relay Not permitted* - This simply means that the mail you sent reached some server, but that server is NOT yet configured to handle e-mails for that domain, so the server rejected the e-mail. Your old server could not possibly do this if the e-mail hit it, so the problem is perhaps with Onecom, having not yet configured their Exchange to handle your domain? Easy to find out. Hey, You may have to ask ur ISP to do a reverse DNS, if relay to your domain is still not allowed, have Onecome allow mails to your Domain And NO, i dont think it is still a propagation issue as you can resolve, can you ? If what Kevin gave is correct. Do tcptraceroute from/to your server destined to port 25/110. I once struggled with sendmail for hours only to find that the provider on that network blocks all traffic destined to/from port 25 by default unles requested. Wilson.
