Hi, I was talking to a certain manager at an NGO who told me that he gets his software from a friend. The software is Windows 7 and when I asked if he gets licensed copies of the same he says his friend gives him the license +software for free. (don't laugh) I am wondering where does the law stand in this case, is the manager innocent due to his ignorance? David

He knows that software is intellectual property and is bought. He must also be knowing that licenses are required, unless he did not enter any computer class!! Is he able to prove that he does not know that software requires license? If he can prove that, and also prove that his friend has been doing everything (installation, reading the terms & conditions) without involving him, then perhaps.. So he is NOT ignorant, and by extension NOT innocent! -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

How do I put this without sounding mean of the manager/director. This particular manager is not the brightest chap. I told him its illegal to pirate software and his response was that if that were the case several companies would have closed down. Maybe his friend gave him the software plus the license which he (the friend) originally bought; aparently licenses are transferrable if "all copies of the original software is uninstalled and destroyed" ama? -- Jangita | +256 76 91 8383 | Y! & MSN: jangita@yahoo.com Skype: jangita | GTalk: jangita.nyagudi@gmail.com

@Jangita, that is good to know. I am doubtful his friend will give him five Windows 7 licenses for free. My curiosity is what happens when the relevant authorities catch up with his NGO. David On Fri, Sep 3, 2010 at 5:02 PM, Jangita <jangita@jangita.com> wrote:
