Who determines where to host a server? If it is expensive to host a server locally, why does the CCK not start by leading the pack? Ok. CCK can actually afford a server. We can install and configure what is needed to host the website (if we feel philanthropic enough) and they can host it at KDN. They will need a Systems Administrator to manage the server. That's a cost. KDN will charge for co-lo. Another cost. KDN may charge for bandwidth. Another cost. Now I think the logic is that if you compare these costs to what you get outside there (where bandwidth has been cheap for a long time btw) then it makes sense to host out there. www.kra.go.ke is locally hosted.... It's way more critical... Additionally, you think CCK is actually paying 4k per year for it's website? You'll find that they are probably paying something in excess of 20k, with which you can get local hosting. Further to this, I'm sure CCK have the capacity to negotiate for lower pricing with ISP's, they are after all the licensing body. I'm sure there were several who are more than willing to get into the good books of CCK by offering up 100 megs of free space... Think this is the biggest problem ailing our country we even giving excuses for the govt which spends almost a billion on hospitality, the govt can host their data centre even in NE run it on windmills or solar. power outage is the lamest excuse even for security they can afford the best brains in the market..probably poach the guys in the security forum and we will move many steps ahead.......
Anyway let them enjoy cheap hosting + 99.999% uptime

CCK site is meant to be accessed i believe by mostly Kenyan's based in the country which means if we have unstable infrustructure even if it's up we won't have power in the country and therefore it will still be down to us.

Companies like safcom and orange have sites hosted locally and they are very fast and i have neva seen it down especially one the one for safcom. So there is on excuse for having them in the states.
