As others discuss whether we have a Linux Kernel, I would like to seek the opinion of the list on the usability of Linux. I have been looking forward to a day when Linux will be easy to use and not need knowledge of where configuration files are and drivers that were not "clean" enough to be included by default in the distribution. So far, seems like most Linux distros have a different focus other than usability, Ubuntu of late has become a fan of forking stuff that the result ends up rhyming with forked, take the case of where they are said to have forked CouchDB to a point the fork became "unmaintainable" However, there is a glimmer of light in that small but ever popular Ubuntu Fork known as Linux Mint, the chaps have even gone ahead and tried to make that Gnome 3 more usable by adding stuff that was taken away. I had experience with a previous version and it was comparatively easy to install and its user interface was pleasant In the process of initiating a move from Fedora to Linux Mint, and see whether the grass is really #00FF00 on that side -- with Regards: blog.denniskioko.com <http://www.denniskioko.com/>

Let's go back to the original point from this week If you are good at something, it will be easy for you to use Some people are good at c# some php some java Some people say once you go Mac, you never go back Some of us think Windows is much easier to use I have a friend who believe AIX is the most usable OS and he knows it inside out Ujinga ni ku-install Linux to show wewe ni hardcore na kutusumbua na flash disks when you want to print :) .... I am just concerned whether there is any initiative to push Linux beyond its 1 per cent market share. Notice that nowadays its has become easier to find software for Mac, while Linux is increasingly being relegated to the back burner. Is Linux just meant for geeks, should I abandon my dreams of convincing accountants (no -offence) that they can easily use Linux, just like they can use the other two OS? I also run some distro on a server and I habe no qualms with using the terminal as a GUI, but for a day to day desktop device, we can surely do much better?

This seems to be an unpopular discussion, however to wrap it up, I booted up a live distro of Linux Mint 12 , and to my disappointment, found it wanting and less smooth than my current distribution. In fact , there wasn't much difference and I felt what I was using was neater. Again, the issue of Linux usability eludes me

As I said to you Windows rocks ! On 12/24/11, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:
