Quick one, I need to make a Euro purchase over paypal. Which offers the best exchange rate - paypal or my local bank (KCB in this case) - from your experience. I know I could call the bank and all, but I'm hoping to short-circuit the whole thing. Thanks. Mek.

Depending on the site you might get to see the exchange rate during the transaction. Scrutinize the paypal payment screen before paying, it'll be hidden with + sign that expands the details (appears on some sites, not all). To answer your question, the last time I did, I got a better local credit card rate (barclaycard) as opposed to paypal, shocked me too! My 2c. It also depends on the amount of cash you are talking about. Just like John, I was pleasantly surprised when I got a better local rate from my bank than online. With the local banks, you can negotiate for a better rate. On Tue, Jun 10, 2014 at 11:04 AM, Vic Mek <mek.vic@gmail.com> wrote:

Noticed the same with Amazon - an item I was buying end up costing more than 5% more cause I allowed them to bill me in Kes. Let them bill you in dollars. On Tuesday, 10 June 2014, Wanjohi Ndegwa <andegs2000@gmail.com> wrote:

^ What he said. If there is no indication of the conversion rate being used, let them bill you in dollars. On 10 June 2014 20:31, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:
