The Beba card on Citi Hoppas?

Yes. I thought it was supposed to turn out to be something bigger than just Citi Hoppa e-ticket! Perhaps the backers behind it are back to the drawing board... On Tue, Sep 4, 2012 at 2:13 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

May the public transport sector can not simply operate in any model that introduces order and accountability. I guess the project was never meant to succeed in the first place. Just like all the smart bus and other projects that have been initiated in the past.

i think it can work with double m, they are the most organised and have a large fleet. On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 9:24 AM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

+1 Nicholas for that observation, I also think double m would have been and can still be a good pilot. I've been using the card for some time now, but the conductors are so reluctant. Most of the time, they say 'simu imeisha moto' (the phone is out of power). On Sep 5, 2012 10:35 AM, "Nicholas Mutinda" <mutindah@gmail.com> wrote:

Was in a Citi Hoppa today where they have scratched out all those "Beba" stickers. The conductor, who was busy asking for change, said "sina agent" when I asked about the Beba Card. The Beba card is a solution which would have gone very far in helping small matatu owners who have no idea how much was collected in their matatu and where it is. I also think some Eastlands saccos would have been a better pilot such as Double M (Who I hear have quite a number of cases of conductors taking off with the days earnings) and maybe others like Embassava, which appear to be more disciplined than Hoppa. Hoppa may have been a good pilot to rein in the indiscipline, but the problem here is that the crew ganged up against the card. Plus Citi Hoppa is already a step towards management.

Hi, First of all we need to understand Kenyans way of doing things n so understand kenya's ,market. I dont know the technology they were using but i gess it gprs or so..what happens when there is no connection? USSD would have been appropriate or even predownloaded vouchers of different denomination. I talked to one of the guys there n adviced on the same but then he said this was an already predesigned to work the way it works n no room for improvement..Wollah...na hii Kenya yetu. There are a co selling airtel called teleyetu. Its a project that works in an almost same way and fortunately the manufacturer(PSITEK) of the devices heeded to the facts on the ground and improved.Seemslike they are making it. The reason it is failing is that the conductors will not be able to make money on the side, since the beba agents are the ones collecting the money. The citi hoppa management should be keen on the beba card. It will help them minimise on the huge losses they incur to the crew handling the money On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 12:01 PM, lordmwesh <lordmwesh@gmail.com> wrote:

NFC just enables retrieving of a unique ID from the tag which is then transmitted to the server with any other info for debits or credits via cellular network by an app in the phone. On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 12:14 PM, Nicholas Mutinda <mutindah@gmail.com>wrote:

The Beba card is a solution which would have gone very far in helping small matatu owners who have no idea how much was collected in their matatu and where it is.
I also think some Eastlands saccos would have been a better pilot such as Double M (Who I hear have quite a number of cases of conductors taking off with the days earnings) and maybe others like Embassava, which appear to be more disciplined than Hoppa.
Hoppa may have been a good pilot to rein in the indiscipline, but the problem here is that the crew ganged up against the card. Plus Citi Hoppa is already a step towards management.

Hi, The one reason why beba may not quite work with citi hoppa is because the company is more a name franchise if you may. most buses are owned and managed by individuals and as such if I have a single bus whats the need to have the beba agent on the bus? Secondly, each bus thats part of the franchise pays a commission of KES1500 (might have gone up) every day it operates coupled with a few infractions with the money collecting guys that you didnot pay the full amount and you can start seeing why the beba card will not be a success. Im not quite sure why they chose citi hoppa but KBS would have been a better choice unless the routes they ply was anything to go by. On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 2:11 PM, gisho <gichuhie@gmail.com> wrote:
