With the talks of Microsoft halting official support for Windows XP, don't you think they should release XP code to the open source community? First, that will ensure that the legend that XP was lives on. Secondly, am willing to bet such an OS will knock off all other open source OSes off the charts. Microsoft have the No. 1 open source OS!

If 'wine' dont do it for you - ie. 'windows' sub-system on *nix - then check out 'reactos' at: http://www.reactos.org - i've been playing with it in a vm (there's a vm image for download - only about 30MB) and looks good so far. "ReactOS(R) is a free, modern operating system based on the design of Windows(R) XP/2003. Written completely from scratch, it aims to follow the Windows(R) architecture designed by Microsoft from the hardware level right through to the application level. This is not a Linux based system, and shares none of the unix architecture. " BTW - what are the apps that only work on xp, that lock guys into that system, and don't run under wine? A poll, perhaps? Here's my list: 1. QuickBooks 2. AutoCAD 3. Nokia PC Suite 4. Google Chrome Remember, coding is 'labour' - so have a rest kesho! Tony 2009/4/30 Odhiambo ワシントン <odhiambo@gmail.com>:

Never! Releasing XP opensource would expose microsoft code which is the basis of the OSes thereafter XP.... for now...i can bet you wont get it! BTW... large organisations would drop use of microsoft products if released as Opensource.....citing security concerns On Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 8:08 PM, Tech List Kenya <techlistkenya@gmail.com>wrote:
