Greetings Fanboys and girls. News updates as soon as they happen. New announcement from Apple regarding product updates. Will keep posted as the Keynote proceeds :D -- ...and I shall shed my light over dark evil. For the dark things cannot stand the light.

Jana Steve Jobs opened his guns on the "Androids" in lieu of the new USD 20 billion revenues posted by Apple... Lets see what they have up their sleeve this time...

Watchie + Glenn, Is the the iPad a MBA killer? No one has the MBA as their only machine, all the things you would buy a MBA for eg/ light, great for travel/sofa, coolness factor etc the iPad does and does it a lot better. Why would anyone buy a MBA when they can get an iPad? On 20 October 2010 21:49, Watchman <skunkingrahim@gmail.com> wrote:

Something noteworthy - have Apple just sounded a death to the optical drive? Remember they were the first to ditch the floppy drive, and now the new kid on the block, MBA, has no optical drive, since it wastes a lot of space. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 10:44 AM, Daudi Were <daudi.were@gmail.com> wrote:

Here's an excerpt from a blog post on the MBA that captures the sentiment of a few of the people I follow on Twitter: Air or iPad? If forced to choose between bringing an Air and an iPad on a trip, to a meeting, on a train, on a plane, or pretty much anywhere, I’d choose the Air. (Even the 11”.) Most of what I do on computing devices either can’t be done or would take much longer on an iPad, and I’m impatient and demanding with my hardware. If you can say the same about yourself, an iPad probably won’t replace a laptop for you. [Full post @ http://www.marco.org/1361316116] ~glenn

@Okech The Macbook air when released 2007 was meant to Kill the optical Drive however, this was quite restrictive to a certain class of persons. The idea behind the macbook air was not to create a more networthy / netbook oriented computer. It was ideally the portable computer that functioned without the need of the Optical drive. Hence the creation of another Apple product called the Remote Disk. An installation interface working via Wireless networks that allows you to install either from Mac / Windows Desktop or laptop that has an optical drive. Once again, the concept was to introduce a form of Cloud computing via MobileMe an apple product that had earlier been known as .Mac and provide stash of Disk space, backup space, webmail etc. This was then Synced via Mobileme to your mac, Pc, iPhone, iPad & iPod touch providing an all inclusive experience for your contacts, mails, calendars photo albums.. getting the picture? Later on, iwork.com was released to provide ( and i have to note that this was pre-Hotmail office and i think right after Google Docs ) a business interface for your Pages ( Word ) documents, Keynote ( PPT ) and Numbers ( Excel ) and leave documents online to work with. It seems however that now we are viewing a much stronger approach to the death of optical with the iPad at it's side and the new Macbook air, Steve did announce if i'm not mistaken that this is the new Macbook Series. I think The Optical will become an option only on the highest spec of 15 and 17" MB Pro's in the next year or so. By my calculations, there will be a review by JAN on new Mac's. For more information, please do not hesitate to email me ( on list is better. Skunks get a view of what's happening ). PS: Server is still being worked on and i will be sure to keep all in the loop. Those are my exact thoughts on the MBA - it won't replace a laptop for you. Or in a slightly different context, I think most Kenyan/African techies who own a MBP use it as their primary machine, their workhorse computer. The MBA can not (and I think it is not intended to) replace this machine. The MBA is a 2nd machine, much like an iPad. Which one would you choose for your second machine? -- Pamoja e:daudi.were@gmail.com <e%3Adaudi.were@gmail.com> skype: d.were

I currently use a MBP 15" as my primary ( == sole) system. The screen size has become a limiting factor with the applications that I currently use, and I am considering moving back to a desktop system. If I had the luxury of getting a second system, the MBA would definitely suit the bill as a majority of the apps I use are not available (and would not run) on an iPad. If I had the $$$, I would just buy a Brabus iBusiness luxury sedan and kill all birds with one stone [http://tinyurl.com/2bopcee]. ~glenn
