Good people, I was checking out the laptops available in this deal and noticed some '* anomalies*'; For example, the Samsung N150 <http://www.wezesha.co.ke/web/products/24> is stated as costing KES 19,100 courtesy of Safaricom, but the same on the Safaricom Shop <http://www.safaricom.co.ke/index.php?id=753> goes for KES 29,999, a difference of KES 10,899. Now, the voucher given to students is worth KES 9,600 <http://www.ict.go.ke/index.php/sport/wezesha/about>... And then this HP Compaq CQ56-152si<http://www.wezesha.co.ke/product/productdetail/166>costs KES 41499 via the program but a similar spec'ed laptop on chekelea.com costs KES 41,440! This Toshiba Satellite C660-1EL<http://www.wezesha.co.ke/product/productdetail/165>costs KES 40,999 with the voucher while the same costs KES 39,760 without the voucher<http://www.chekelea.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=763> . Interesting...

I bought mine (dell n5030) @ 41,500/= although the market price is 39,000/=, it is only that I was provided with a 2gig flash and a modem that I consoled myself. better to console oneself that way Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2011 19:27:46 +0300 From: pkarunyu@gmail.com To: skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke Subject: [Skunkworks] Wezesha deal Good people, I was checking out the laptops available in this deal and noticed some 'anomalies'; For example, the Samsung N150 is stated as costing KES 19,100 courtesy of Safaricom, but the same on the Safaricom Shop goes for KES 29,999, a difference of KES 10,899. There is one wezesha pro book 13 inch selling at almost a similar price as Alvin sells a 15 inch. The wezesha one has the voucher factored in the price

@Peter, thanks for pointing out the "anomalies" as far as pricing on chekelea versus the voucher program-sellers goes, be assured that as soon as I'm back, will request the concerned people to look into the matter. Unfortunately at this time, I'm unable to provide any information and have appreciated your thoughts on the matter, please bear with the delay in responding. In the meantime, if the voucher program offers are genuine and so it seems, then it's definately a big positive step towards empowering students with the tools and I wish those who are in the voucher program-sellers best of luck with their business endeavours. Thank you. :-)

@Aki, No need to worry, my beef is with the prices of the vendors included in the wezesha deal, not with chekelea or starcom. What I failed to understand is how a laptop in the Wezesha deal can be more expensive or the same price like one outside the deal. I would imagine that if a laptop costs 50k from Alvin, Chekelea, Starcom or <put your fav shop here> then it would cost about 41k for students in the Wezesha deal, but this is not the case, unless there is something I am missing. On other matters, anyone know how to get in contact with the guy who did the wezesha.co.ke site? I've seen a couple of interesting errors and two emails to SG and the ICT board go unanswered.

I also found the same, the deal is skewed so that cheaper laptops are discounted, but the more costly ones are sold at about market price inclusive of the vouchers. As for the guy who did the wbesite, you can find him around the iHub, though I forgot to grab his contacts. Ask anyone who hangs around there or Jessica Collaco to link you.

@ Peter, that may not always be the case as partners get better pricing than others. 'Wezesha'' or not.... On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 9:45 AM, mwei gideon <mweigideon@gmail.com> wrote:

I bought Toshiba L500-204 and it had like 4 different prices, the Website had it's own price, The one at the shop was was cheaper than the one on the website and the wezesha brochure also had a different price though this one was bundled...i.e it had the modem + 600mb loaded. that was a consolation.
