ISDB-T does have benefits just like ISDN did for telecoms.It was developed in Japan.It basically involves that is the next stage of communication where you have radio,tv,internet and phone on one channel.The initial costs are very expensive but the consumer benefits in the long run.Those who have the money to go in of ISDN would and those who don't will stick to dvb-t.Eventually all roads are leading to integrated Services Digital Networks.You must know,HD was in existence about 15yrs ago in Japan.Its now we are accepting it and now enjoying its benefits. The hue and cry here is due to the STBs already in the market and the investments the govt has already made.It would bring confusion if both services are run concurrently. So the govt has to make a decision first and fast on which way we need to go. Seriously, can this be simplified for a common man like me to grasp? What are the benefits ( and cons) of the Brazilian idea to the one already in place?
From the BD article, it's imperative that the deal is already sealed, as Dr. Ndemo has said. So this means we are now going to start the process all over again? Or the consumer is given an opportunity to go the Brazilian way or the already invested in one?
Suppose another country comes up with yet another different approach of the same and come throw a party at us, will that change the cause of the river? Remember, Kenya has had many suitors of late (Brazil, the 'NKOTB', China, Iran etc) and all are throwing goodies around. Regards,

South Korea was throwing CDMA at us... I have no issues with CDMA, as long as the equipment provided is free, we can figure out a use for it; - but arent we on WCDMA now ?
Solomon, This is where thorough research is required. Both have some pros and cons. ISDB-T brings with it advantages of ISDN to your TV. By comparison, ISDB-T is to CDMA, what DVB-T is to GSM. CDMA came 10 years later than GSM, and proved to use radio resources better. Japan, North And South America enjoy better CDMA services than what GSM provides. Same applies to ISDB. The pros and cons of either system are more to do with the operators equipment than the consumer. Consumers will mostly feel the difference in costs of the set top boxes than anything else. Let me summarise: DVB can transmit digital siganls encoded in MPEG2/MPEG4 using cable(DVB-C), satellite(DVB-S), terrestial(DVB-T) or handheld (DVB-H) and is in Europe, Australia, South-Africa and India. Advantages of DVB: - Can freely change applied modulation techniques. Disadvantages: - Despite modulation techniques its not as robust i.e. error correction is weaker. A little interference leads to "no signal" errors,etc. - Power consumption of the transmission equipment is high. - Not very portable.I've experienced this using the DSTv Mobile, signal lost when moving above 10KPH.
