Hi People, Problem with mail server running, Postfix version 2.4.5 Redhat Linux Fedora 8 Amavis Host name : mail.organization.net server hosted by client MX:mail.isp.com Scenario organization.net hosted by godaddy.com organization.net expired and after 2days its renewed again. Since then server cannot send nor receive mail. Service provider says its an issue with the server settings, but nothing has changed in the server. issue 2: Organization had a public ip A it was blacklisted, changed to B which has been in use all this time. when the server is set to B it cannot ping outside (out of local LAN). and it cannot be accessed. if u send mail u get the error "Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name= smtp.isp.com type=MX: Host not found, try again" if i set it to use A it delivers mail but cant Receive, it can ping outside and can also be accessed. Your issue has least likely to do with your mail server but this "when the server is set to B it cannot ping outside (out of local LAN). and it cannot be accessed.". This is the setup in my opinion. AK's MXs receive emails for you domain (possibly filters spam and viruses) and does a smart relay to your server. If your server is not reachable therefore, emails destined to your domain will most likely queue on their servers until that time when you can be reached or the configured queue duration expires and email bounce back to the sender. The Domain Was renewed 2 days after it expired, that is more that Seven days as of today.

Hmm.. can neither "send nor receive" - I'd love to see a snippet of the postfix log file. I find it odd that it cannot receive, and I may attribute that to the domain having expired. Please note that it normally requires 48 to 72 hours for the information to propagate again fully after the renewal, if you did let it expire as it appears is the case.
The Domain Was renewed 2 days after it expired, that is more that Seven days as of today.

Rumours? You really need not rely on what the service provider says when you have the logs files right in front of your nose:-) You can easily login to the server and simulate an SMTP session to some destination address after looking up the MX records for the domain.

When you change an IP, you must reflect the same change in the DNS records for the domain, and that is done by the DNS manager for the domain - mostly the guys who are reponsible for the MX records, to be specific.

Is IP B same subnet as IP A, and routed the same way? How do you activate IP B? Please type the command you use here. Also type the output pf 'netstat -rn' when IP A is active and also when IP B is active.

This means that routing is broken when IP B is active and so DNS resolution is not working since (it would appear) your DNS server is actually external to your network. If you were running a local cache, it would be a different error message.

I find that quite odd - that it delivers mail, but cannot receive. So if you login to your gmail account and send an e-mail to youraddress@company.domain, you end up with or without an error? In the absence of an _immediate_ error, you need to call AK and ask them to check the listing in the queue for ukns1.accesskenya.com to see if the mail -s there. If it is, then you can do something to dequeue the mail. From your server, try this: telnet ukns1.accesskenya.com 25 ETRN zimele.net quit If the AK server supports ETRN, that command should announce to it the resurgence of your server and e-mails should begin to flow. PS: I think deploying IP B is actually a waste of time.
