Silverbird Theaters shutdown - renovation or lawsuit?

Could this be why silverbird theaters is currently shut down? http://nationalmirroronline.net/business/5231.html Or is it because of renovation ? Have a great day.

This is but a tip of the iceberg. Piracy is weighing heavily on them with cinema goer numbers dwindling substantialy which put them on the red and they could hardly pay staff salaries. You may have also noticed that Cinemas are no longer bringing latest movies as they used to and movies are screening for longer periods so that cinemas can break even. The story is the same for fox theatres who are lucky that they own the 20th century building so thet rental income keeps them afloat but the sad story applies to them and heard that they may be forced to close one more theatre. @ Gichuki...The reason why they cant bring new movies is because piracy is not being controlled and when piracy is not controlled there is no money to bring new movies..its a vicious cycle I guess. @ Gichuki They do have 3D, i think on iMAX,, cos when i was watchin that movie "Megamind" at Sarit (or Westgate) ,, the characters and action was taking place on the audience space (i.e -ve space) I understand as of today, they have at least added Thor 3D, but unlike animations,, live action movies 3D usually take place behind the screen (+ve space) not in audience space [?][?] I have seen the same in other african countries,, death of the Movie Theaters; first they select only 5 titles and show them for like 3 months,, then they select another 5 and show them for another 3 months - and ignore the rest !!!
Piece of advice : They should release movies on the same week or month as the US/UK and show them before the DVD RIP is out; that way they will stay ahead of the 40 bob guys cos the 40 bob guys also have some ethics - they inform you that you are getting a camera copy.

Ive always wanted to go big screen even when I can get pirated version(not admission to the crime) The experience is different especially if its a hangout with a loved one.... But, how do you charge me 400 bob for ticket alone???Then I walk in and we are like 5 people watching the movie? Charge me 250 and fill the hall, that way I keep coming back. Their pricing was veeery wrong, they could have made more from food and drinks. But then again, how many SA companies get business right in kenya? Thats what you get when too many expensive SA expartriates try to make a business work in kenya. Put kenyans in the same silverbird set up and see the magic that will follow On Wed, May 11, 2011 at 11:26 AM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

@ Ndungu, that not iMAX, the screen is also too small. Westgates 3D was a little better, but wait until u experience real 3D theatre overseas, that when u will hate what u see in Sarit. On 5/11/11, Joram Mwinamo <joram.mwinamo@gmail.com> wrote:
