The StanChart 2FA works like a charm, I was worried but have done about 5 transaction without any delay at all. I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured: a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015?? b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Bwana Lawi, my 3 observations : - Bank to M-PESA transactions have unusually high failure/reversal rates. That's what I noted from operating an NIC bank account. This has been the case even before the M-PESA service was relocated to Kenya. - Some PayPal transactions have been affected by how some card providers effected their CHIP-n-PIN technology. If your card explicityl asks for the PIN at all times (e.g the Airtel VISA card), then hard luck! - To those who may be affected, Barclaycard & Barclays Bank are two different entities, factor in some payment reconciliation latencies when using your BBK online banking platforms for transactions involving your Barclaycard Credit Cards. I haven't seen CFC Stanbic mentioned. I'm happy with them, as well as NIC and Stanchart. However, I do have one issue they've never managed to resolve. Whenever I do a RTGS transfer from CFC to NIC (via Internet Banking), for some reason the instruction is received on the remote end without the account details. The receiving account doesn't get credited and I always have to request for the transfer advice which I forward to NIC for them to credit the account. Without this intervention the money sits in a suspense account forever. Funny thing is that this happens only between CFC and NIC. As usual each party blames the other, and I'm caught in the middle. I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured:
a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015??
b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal
c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Especially in case of an emergency

Stan Chart is doing well with customer service, but their online portal is lackluster. I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured:
a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015??
b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal
c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Especially in case of an emergency

My experience, KCB is one of those leading from the bottom - I am happy with services at StanChart and NIC Bank so far - customer services of both are up there!

From my research and what I gather here - NIC & CBA are at the top of my list.
I have a huge preference for online operations esp. EFT/RTGS. It may be a dumb question...but I know some banks do RTGS transactions sometimes in batches e.g. Coop - do the above two perform in realtime as is supposed to be the case? In your opinions, which online portal between the two is better? Any other pros/cons? Your comments are well appreciated! I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured:
a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015??
b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal
c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Especially in case of an emergency

George, Customer experience is more about people than systems. The way the problem is framed... followed up... resolved - makes all the difference. Banks hire creamiest of cream...too *swagish* to care about customers (my opinion). As for Systems: from the discussion above, CfC, NIC, CBA are generally approved as to provide good customer experience. Their similarities: - they are supplied with core system by same vendor - they invest in local expertise for systems support/ integration. - are generally moving towards middleware and breaking reliance on core system to do everything including 'make coffee'. - they are leaders in internet and mobile banking experience. from the discussion above, CfC, NIC, CBA are generally approved as to provide good customer experience. I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured:
a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015??
b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal
c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Especially in case of an emergency

I think i got experience with several banks.. Here is my ranking... FROM BOTTOM EQUITY BANK, never held an account with them but i find my self depositing cash in equity accounts quite often...worst bank. They nag a lot if you got a loan with them. KCB, i have 3 almost dormant accounts,poor customer service. It can take upto 4months to process a loan! You ought to know people to get stuff done. ECB, this bank has nothing to offer other than store your money. NO ATM, very few branches and ugly MS Windows dependent internet banking. Mobile banking is based on USSD, with 14steps before you get to your money. Breaks when a call comes. Lots of internal fraud, must check statement regularly. BARCLAYS BANK, just too old. Strange cash into your account and you will be in for it. A million questions... Bensouda like. Opted out. CHASE BANK, I opened my account on the streets in about 5min. Got email n sms notifications immediately with my account details. Mobile banking is very neat and easy. Internet banking is very nice, only issue is it only takes a fixed exchange rate, big issue if doing TTs. Customer service is nice, phones are picked on the first ring. I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured:
a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015??
b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal
c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Especially in case of an emergency

@Jared, I have banked with Equity for a number of years now. I once took a car loan with them and I paid for it with no issues at all. No nagging. It was approved quite fast once I provided all the required documents. But then again, I never have special needs from them; just OTC deposit and ATM withdrawal. No RTGS, EFT, online banking, mobile banking, equitel or cheques. I have been okay with their customer service. As for Systems:
from the discussion above, CfC, NIC, CBA are generally approved as to provide good customer experience. I've always defended BBK but today has been my worst experience. In a span of less than 24 hrs, the following have occured:
a) Their Mpesa to BBK account via lipa na mpesa is effected the next day if you transact after 3 pm. Woe unto you if it's a Friday. Who does not have realtime Mpesa/Bank interface in 2015??
b) Paypal transaction via BBK debit card failed, despite over 1hr chat with customer care. Issue was escalated to IT and they were to call me. I give them benefit of the doubt here though. It could be an issue with Paypal
c) I gave up and decided to transfer the cash to another provider. I did an Account to Mpesa transfer from BBK online banking. As fate would have it, their systems are experiencing issues with Mpesa. I don't know if other banks are affected. The annoying thing is that the reversal can only be done tomorrow (or next working day) after they receive recon files from safcom. Yet the money is already debited from my account. Basically I can't access the money from Mpesa or my account. That's a very dangerous thing to do to a customer if you ask me. Especially in case of an emergency

From my experience, I vouch for StanChart, I&M and NIC. I can't seem to find some latest write-up on this topic, that seemed a bit up to date.
