How do I use two different LAN/internet connections at the same time (Windows)

Hi guys, I have poured over the internet and I dont seem to see a work around to this; My dilemma is that I have (1) a WIFi or Dial-up connection for Internet (I say OR because I can use either) (2) a LAN connection where i need to access the equipment to work I need to find a way I can keep one internet connection active and the LAN - Or select some programs to use the LAN and the browsers/chats to use Internet (Cos both are needed for a successful work). Is there a work around for this,, mabbe a program that traps the connections and asks the user which connection to use :-) ? === *Background: *Windows uses only one connection, and usually will select the one with Internet; Or the one with lower metric; I have tried to play around with the metrics (raising or lowering from the control panel>network connections) to create a situation where my first connection is LAN, and if any application wants to access the Internet, it finds the other connection that has DNS etc and goes to the Internet - but nothing ! <n00b> Anyone ever tried to work around this on Windows ? <am on Vista platform - dont ask why :( >

My guess is to assume no one has had this dilemma or tried to solve it ?

Hi Stephen, You can configure the NIC you want to use for the internet with a default gateway. The second NIC shouldn't have a gateway specified. You can then specify static routes to the other 'stuff' you need in order to work. The command is "route add" from command prompt. Remember to make the routes persistent otherwise they will be cleared everytime you reboot. This should sort you out although i have no idea if it works on VISTA. Cheers. @John Thanks ! The idea has worked to some level; though a few adjustments had to be made. w/regards SNN

And if both are DHCP and have a gateway already just use ROUTE DELETE to remove the one you dont need. To see the route details type ROUTE PRINT. On 9/24/10, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com> wrote:

u dont need a gw to access LAN so just add LAN IP as secondary. have only one gw for the internet link. On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 3:43 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:
