Skunkers, I am faced with a unique problem. I have set up domain which is hosted on google apps. You receive and send emails no issues whatsoever. I have a device that I am configuring that does not allow one to enter the port numbers for the smtp for google. A search on the internet led me to aspmx.l.google.com that uses port 25. When I use the same setup on outlook - outgoing SMTP as aspmx.l.google.com and the port number as 25, I still receive the mail but not on the device. Any ideas on how I can get this to work? Thank you. Regards -- Anthony Tai "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination."

Throw away the device. On Thu, Jun 7, 2012 at 12:01 PM, Anthony Tai <jicholatai@gmail.com> wrote:

Anthony, what you've shared are one of Google apps' MX records. The smtp should be smtp.gmail.com On Jun 7, 2012 11:00 PM, "Odhiambo Washington" <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

@Odhiambo, I wish I could do that. Although, this works well on printers if we input the SPF within the domain. Anyway, this is a government project and they have already invested heavily on the equipment. @Frank and @Amanya, the smtp.gmail.com cannot work because we normally declare the ports. As I said, it is a unique situation. The device uses a modem to remotely report data. I called the google offices to get help and I got transferred 3 times and no solution yet. I simply redirected my mail back to the hosting service. Its interesting what we face as techies and the challenge is how we can circumvent them. Thank you. Looking at this response keenly again, I am not sure I understood your problem in the first place. Where does SPF come from now? Is this Sender Policy Framework or some other acronym with a different meaning? If you are hosting with Google, and paying for it (which I think holds true), then for sure Google engineers should help you. You represent the govt, no?:-) If you explain your problem well, I can figure out something. This far I need a detailed rephrase of the whole issue. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler.

@Odhiambo, I have a device that uses the GSM network to send out emails to assigned users. The software is such that you simply enter the smtp server, username and password and indicate 2 recipient email addresses. The firmware assumption is that the smtp server is using port 25. That is why I cannot use smtp.gmail.com. Google help online shows that one can use aspmx.l.google.com. If you set this up on outlook, it works. Put the same configuration on the device and nothing is sent. I dropped the email host @Alex from google so that I can use the mail.domain.com because it is set by default to port 25 and this works. Thank you. Regards -- Anthony Tai "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination." On Fri, Jun 8, 2012 at 11:24 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

I was going to suggest that you setup your own SMTP server to achieve the desired result. However, I am afraid of one thing regarding your use of mail.domain.com: Your devices use the GSM network and I do assume they get dynamic IPs. I must ask how you handle the relay on mail.domain.com because I already feel it is an Open Relay sans ASMTP measures! And I know you cannot ask safaricom/airtel to give you what their whole subnet that they assign to GSM devices so that you can relay for the whole blocks. That is another suicide! Comment on that please. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler.

@Odhiambo, The truth is, asking company help is suicidal in our day and age. That's the reality. The full hosting service provides you with the mail all set up, so that is what I am going to use for now. The modems are set up in 100 different sites in the country and relay the information via email at set times during the day. I don't work for the government, the work was sub sub sub contracted to me :-). The rest, we will go as long. The open relay is taken care of. Thank you. Anthony, There was no need to redirect hosting back, you should have asked your ISP to provide you with an smtp server on port 25, which is your need. SMTP and POP/IMAP service are unrelated and don't have to be on the same server/provider On 06/08/2012 11:15 AM, Anthony Tai wrote:
