Skunks, I have the DS412+ at work and it recently got full. Started blinking orange and producing a beeping sound. I was fidgeting around with it and reset it. Reading up a bit about it, I got the Synology Web Assistant to check the two 3TB disks. All looked fine although I suspect one might have crashed. I got the 'Configuration Lost' message. The Wizard suggested that I re-install DSM on the drives. What will be the effect of re-installing DSM? Will I loose all my data? Been looking up this information to no avail. Anyone with an idea? Eugene, Call Joseph Ngatia on 0721514530 he will be able to assist on that. Dear Eugene, About Synology, Note that all Synology comes with a reset button, that reset Synology Configurations to factory setting. The reason why your NAS shows configuration lost is due to re-format of configurations. FYI, You need to re-install the NAS with the Same firmware or latest firmware. For this re-installation note following. 1. Re-installing firmware does not format the drives 2. By resetting, You already lost configurations ( Network Settings, Users profiles, Any application installed and it's setting ) 3. After re-installing, creating your users afresh, network settings and applications. NB Backup your Synology configuration always. Bernard, Seems you image not loading but the reset button is a small button, located on the back of every synology device and you need a paper clip pin to press it. On 18 Nov 2014 07:04, "Bernard Mwagiru" <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:

Ok. I'll take my chances and click "Erase data" on my DS112j. Configuration file is backed up. On Tue, Nov 18, 2014 at 7:52 AM, Josy Ngatia via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Ok, share your experience. Also re-install same firmware version, then restore dss file you backed up and later upgrade latest DSM. On 18 Nov 2014 07:55, "Bernard Mwagiru" <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:

Skunks, Though I couldn't back up data because I couldn't access the DSM, the upgrade after the reset worked. I didn't loose any data! I lost all configuration settings though which isn't a big deal. Everything is intact though the Synology is really slow because one of the disks is failing. Thank you Joseph for the advice Kakai On Tue, 18 Nov 2014 8:03 AM Josy Ngatia via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
