Most of these Home Theaters and TVs in the market can not read NTFS partition but work with FAT and FAT32. I had a similar problem and spend weeks wondering whether it was the HDD, until I formatted it in FAT32 and it worked. Try that. I am not sure if they support USB3 but I guess it is backward compatible with USB2, or maybe it is just the cable that is USB3, because there are very few gadgets in the market that are USB3 ready.

Had the same issue some time back, mine was a 350GB. Apparently, it takes very very long scanning for the first time. Maybe it is your model of the hometheater. Am saying this coz I have a DVD player which only recognizes the first drive whenever you partition, but my main hometheater sees all the three partitions I have and I have 2 ntfs & 1 fat32 ./Ok3ch On Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 2:45 PM, jacob mutwiri kalenywa <jacmut@yahoo.com>wrote:

The issue seems to be the firmware support, as I have previously tried connecting a 500GB Transcend to an LG home theater but it was not being recognized. I haven't 'broken into' any Transcend yet so i'm not sure what make of HDD is inside. I use the same portable drive on this<http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN40C5000QFXZA>bila shida...it reads the entire 500gig NTFS partition without a problem. Haven't tried with a bigger hard disk though.

but most home theatres can be upgraded via a flash drive , go and find your home theater update and try to update it On Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 8:03 PM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:

yes indeed...2 checks: 1. ensure it is powered, some need to be powered while you have it on your hometheatre 2. check the file system...common with FAT and FAT32..i doublt ntfs is supported..:) 3. no funny .exe in it..like autorun or the crazy worms..they overide how the device is detected by the the reader...:) On Thu, Apr 21, 2011 at 8:52 AM, geoffrey gitagia <ggitagia@gmail.com>wrote:
