Be a bit specific and say what you have done so far and what has failed so far. Then we may help. On Thu, Jan 27, 2011 at 10:35 AM, solomon kariri <solomonkariri@gmail.com>wrote:

Ok. I have setup maven 3 and it seems to work fine. This is an indication that my environment variables are ok, yes? Below is the output of mvn --version *Apache Maven 3.0.2 (r1056850; 2011-01-09 03:58:10+0300) Java version: 1.6.0_16, vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc. Java home: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_16\jre Default locale: en_GB, platform encoding: Cp1252 OS name: "windows 7", version: "6.1", arch: "x86", family: "windows"* I have also setup Ant 1.8.2 it seems to work just fine. I have attached the output of ant -diagnostics. I intend to make changes to the core JSP thus, i think, the need for the above two. Postgresql 9 seems to work fine, I can log into it remotely from another PC in the LAN. I have also attached server.xml from tomcats config directory, I modified it from line 68 to 78, as per the installation instructions for dspace 1.7.0 Tomcat seems to be running fine since I can access the manager section. I have opened port 8080 in windows firewall I have placed the main dpsace folder in c so that its path in dpsace.cfg is C:\dspace. I am not sure its supposed to be like this since the value which was there before I changed it to C:\dpsace was /dspace. So, right now, I am going to add CATALINA_HOME to my environment path, point it to the Tomcat install directory and restart my machine and see what goes. Not its not because of this snippet from the installation instructions: *§ A PostgreSQL JDBC driver is configured as part of the default DSpace build. You no longer need to copy any PostgreSQL jars to get PostgreSQL installed.* But let me try it out and see what happens. Aright, Check your tomcat logs and see what errors are generated. If you have not redirected tomcat logs, they are in <tomcat-home>/logs/ Check the catalina.out file and see what errors are listed there On Thu, Jan 27, 2011 at 12:20 PM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

I've done it before on "Debian Etch" I also had a hard time until I realized that I hadn't installed ANT and my the JAVA_HOME variable on the /etc/profile was not pointing to the correct Java Path. Confirm you have the following installed, then check your environment variables, tell me how it goes: * Java JDK v5 or later - ensure this is SUN and not OPENJDK * Apache Ant 1.7 or later * Perl 5 * I presume the PostgreSQL and Apache Tomcat are already installed On 1/27/11, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks ye all for the suggestions. i will try them all and give feedback. In the meantime, I realized a mistake I had made; I am in a network where a proxy server is needed to get to the internet so I had to put in the proxy server IP address and the port in settings.xml in the Maven install directory. Now, when doing a *mvn -X package* inside the dspace folder, i get an error to the effect that: *[ERROR] Two or more projects in the reactor have the same identifier, please make sure that <groupId>:<artifactId>:<version> is unique for each project:* This leads me to https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/MAVEN/DuplicateProjectExceptiona... now I am looking at all the pom.xml files in all the subfolders of dspace to see if there is a 'typo' and that the *that <groupId>:<artifactId>:<version> is unique for each project* On Thu, Jan 27, 2011 at 2:08 PM, Patrick Kariuki <patrick.kariuki@gmail.com>wrote:
