KENET: Ubuntu & Debian mirror outage

Dear KENET, Your mirrors ubuntu.mirror.ac.ke & debian.mirror.ac.ke have been unavailable for more than a week. Given that you are listed as Kenya's official mirror for debian and ubuntu, it's unacceptable to be down for this amount of time. It sucks that I have to reconfigure a bunch of boxes with a new upstream. PLEASE FIX THIS! If you can't keep the servers up, do not register as an official mirror!
From the ubuntu guidelines [1] -- Be committed to being a mirror. Obviously, each offer to be an Ubuntu mirror is great and users appreciate it. However, it's in nobody's interest to go and change the sources.list every time a mirror disappears. So if you're not planning on creating a mirror for the long run, don't register it. People might get disappointed in you and/or Ubuntu.

Laban, Better to just reach out to Canonical/Debian and have those mirrors stricken from the lists. They've been up and down for years. The liquidtelecom mirrors are far superior. -Adam -- Kili - Cloud for Africa: kili.io Musings: twitter.com/varud <https://twitter.com/varud> More Musings: varud.com About Adam: www.linkedin.com/in/adamcnelson On Fri, Jan 23, 2015 at 4:55 AM, Laban Mwangi via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Laban, On behalf of the mirror maintainer at KENET our apologies. The mirror team was conducting a migration which dint go well and the mirrors have had to resync. The mirrors should be up once the resync completes. Our apologies. Adam, True the Liquid mirrors are far superior having been set up last year with lots of storage space and dedicated mirror hardware. For the country it is good to have such infrastructure and at multiple sites. The KENET Ubuntu and Debian archive mirrors have only been up since mid 2013 - just over 1.5 years and we try our best to have them up and operational.
