Battery powered rechargeable lamps

Since it appears that blackouts are an integral pillar of Vision 2030, I'm looking at buying those rechargeable lights to replace my candles. Wondering if you guys have experiences with various models, and which ones are preferable between the LED and fluorescent kind, and do the batteries have a long life span? -- with Regards: blog.denniskioko.com <http://www.denniskioko.com/>

There is some small LED lights I've seen in use somewhere in the bush, solar chargeable and can do like 2 days comfortably. Price for those is 1k. Regards, Martin Gicheru Sent from my Galaxy Note II On 10 Jan 2013 20:25, "Dennis Kioko" <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

I'm thinking more along the lines of those that are charged using electricity, have seen some along Rive Road for KSh. 700 for LED lights.

Only problem I have encountered with MANY of these rechargeable lamps are the batteries. Most have very low-quality lead-acid batteries, with surprisingly short lifetimes. After just a few recharge cycles, the batteries can only hold enough charge for 15 mins. Though more difficult to source, and slightly more expensive, try get lamps with lithium-ion batteries. Anyone with knowledge of "real" brands that have a long life? ----- On Fri, Jan 11, 2013 at 9:53 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

When you think about it, what solar can do, electricity can also do. I have a small solar charged lamp (Sun King brand) that I at times charge via USB from my PC. Since this contraption charges over D.C, the only challenge was to get the a charging pin that fits into the provided port. The universal USB multi-charger device that was discussed elsewhere on this list came to my rescue. I have been seeing that Sun King lamp being aggressively advertised in the dailies & on Telly. That was my concern too, that the batteries would be of poor quality. Energizer do have some lamps but they cost upwards of KSh. 3,000 or about Ksh. 800 for those that need Eveready batteries.
