Number portability

Dear friends, I am having major pains with my current network provider. Is there a number portability option in case I move to Safaricom. Thanks Athar -- Thank you, Best regards, Athar Ahmad Bhatti +254788381211 Skype: atharab http://ke.linkedin.com/pub/athar-ahmad-bhatti/6/49b/374

Yep, 200 bob and no unpaid bills to the current operator. Your number will be off for 48 working hours (excluding weekends holidays etc) The new operator might charge you for a new sim card though... On 22 April 2014 13:24, Athar Ahmad Bhatti <atharab@gmail.com> wrote:

Just to drive this to another angle, I am sure you want to port away from Airtel:-) A whole bunch of a*****s who should be selling mandazi instead of pretending to offer GSM service. I am not sure I'll even buy their mandazi. On 22 April 2014 13:47, Athar Ahmad Bhatti <atharab@gmail.com> wrote:

Orange is heavenly for Data, if you are in nairobi. cheaper too fo voice and quality is mostly good. Value added services however are a bust. Their mobile money is. .. well. . non-existent. On Tue, Apr 22, 2014 at 3:08 PM, Jangita Nyagudi <jangita.nyagudi@gmail.com> wrote:

@ Athar, May I ask what the Major Pains with your current network [Airtel] is ? Being that i know some people in vendors who work in a few operators in .ke BR/

Ndungu, you really don't want to go there. Just take it that Airtel are running themselves out of business - willingly! Below is a note I sent to their customerservice@ke.airtel.com with a copy to a techie whose actual address I know. This is after I contacted this techie, who was on leave, about a problem. I had spoken to about 5 assholes on their 111 who were all unwilling to listen to my problem as I presented it, but instead wanted to pre-empt other issues which I had not brought forth. After all the frustration, I called this techie, explained to him everything and he texted me his e-mail address for me to send mail to him, which he would then escalate. Silly enough (yes!) his escalation was to forward the mail to customerservice@.. Left me wondering if he thought I couldn't send mail to that address myself. I then resorted to calling my Account Manager, who also asked me to send an e-mail and who seemed to forward the same to the 'right people', because soon after, I was called by someone. That someone promised to look into my issue with the technical team and revert. That was Thursday last week. He only reverted today! And I can tell this was a coverage/network problem at the location where I was going through this grief, with 8 lines rendered u/s. Because customerservice did not even acknowledge my e-mail, I sent them this today: "*I believe the only reason Airtel is on a downward trend is the lethargy of it's employees.* *If noone was brave enough to face a customer on such an issue, then I suppose Airtel is better selling mandazi, not what it does now. All clients will take off, and leave Airtel in a situation where they just need to close shop*. *"* Just for the kicks, I was once a Yu customer until my phone got stolen with the line. It was a custom line I had applied for/booked in advance when they were setting up shop, if you can remember they allowed people to do that. The process I was taken through in order to get the line blocked and replaced was enough for me to tell them not just to keep their line, but their 'service' too. I am happy they are so gone! Waiting for the day Airtel will finish the job of acquiring and anti-personnel munition and blowing itself on the foot! On 22 April 2014 16:25, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com> wrote:

Orange are 'amazing'. Someone calls me every month to remind me that my bill is due. Its a full conversation that ranges between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. An automated sms would do, but paying someone to do it is sad. I hate to imagine how much of their resources could be more productivly used On 22 April 2014 16:46, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

So with all these issues at Airtel KE, yet all the MVNOs are running there, what service quality do we expect? In as much you just run your infrastructure on top of theirs, you definitely need a vibrant host(Airtel) for you seamless/smooth operations as an MVNO.. I am gonna try this Orange data this April. Is that on GSM or CDMA or both?? At KES 3,000 per month unlimited?? So Mark, you are telling me that Orange has n00bs as VAS Managers/Product Designers or they simply suffer from the type of bureaucracy that bedevils Orange in general? There are political cliques/dynasties which even the French could not manage to break! The same reasons Orange cannot make good use of their CDMA network and their 'advantage' of having been the only 'copper' operators - well, kinda still, until KPLC starts leasing out dark fiber... Orange CS as difficult to work with as Airtel, but Airtel's are the worst. On 22 April 2014 16:10, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:

A whole bunch of a*****s who should be selling mandazi instead of pretending to offer GSM service.
I am not sure I'll even buy their mandazi.

@ Odhiambo, some things are rather obvious. They are/were the sole agents for the iPhone and yet it has not translated to any profits for them. If you have an iPhone, I bet its not from Orange. I Have blogged about this here : http://markmwangi.me.ke/orange-kenya-most-infuriating-sleeping-giant/ They are sitting on an entire CDMA network that is robust, fully functional and immune to competition on the tech front. Combining this with the iPhone monopoly would be a gold mine. They don't think so. Their customer service has been kinda better than Airtel's with the spectrum for me looking like this Safaricom>Orange>Airtel I forgot about Yu long ago. Their Marketing and branding is top Notch though. But small things like notifying when bundle expires or is exhausted they seem to be unable to implement despite numerous requests. I've always had an mpesa sim card, mostly off on only to transact line so... and come to think about it, I never use any VAS on any network... Plus when it comes to roaming, trust me orange really roams! On 22 April 2014 16:10, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:

Try traveling with your Safaricom SIM card in West Africa, that is when you will know Airtel is perfect and customer service in every country sorts you whenever there is an issue! IMHO, just have multiple SIM cards and use whenever you need. ./Ok3ch On Fri, Apr 25, 2014 at 7:32 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:
