Re: [Skunkworks] A dark afternoon...

I have noticed the main reason why the courts are always accused of dismissing cases for lack of evidence. The police do not do shoddy investigation, they just don't do anything. I have seen a case where the police have been called to a scene of a shop breaking and the owners were very careful not to touch anything in case they jeopardize the investigation. When the police finally came, they asked the shop owner if he has any suspects and then left the scene promising to look for the stolen merchandise. They did not even try dusting the scene. The case above was reported, and the only response from police is, " Kwani you dont know that place is dangerous...?"
Matter was closed like that.

Actually most of them do not even know how to dust for prints. It looks simple on CSI but it does take a little skill to get a good print without smudging it. Bottom line, aside from being grossly underpaid, they have little (if any) real training. On Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 4:41 PM, Alvin Jason Ochieng <ajochola@gmail.com> wrote:

Not all cops undergo SoC (Scene of Crime) training. It's only a section within the CID, and these folks must always come from the CID office, not from the Police Station. Policemen have real training. The problem is that most of the time they feel invincible and hence abuse their powers and privileges to an extent that "Wanjiku" will wonder what kind of training they underwent. If you dig into the archives of this list, I had once asked what curriculum do the disciplined forces take in their respective training colleges so as to know where the mess might be. @ Wash, that part of giving the wrong figure has got my ribs hurt. Kenya police are actually very well trained. Problem lies after training. Simple question would a CID officer bother with dusting a break in or better off looking at big guys who can give him cut back since his salo cant sustain him. The rot in the police stems from the examination grading and the weight put on the overall score plus its consequences. Majority of cops got Ds going down, some were employed coz they could run faster. The problem with this is that no one expects a 'failure' to be well paid, even the employer. The consequence is that police force does not therefore attract good brains, both in terms of expected pay and nature of the work environment. What therefore do you expect from a lowly paid,house-sharing runner at a crime scene? The cops are not motivated enough to investigate. I once saw a cop with no clue, the difference btn, website, internet and email ,investigating an ICT fraud. Lack of interest, knowhow plus misplaced-stupid arrogance is how it looked. Police force must appeal to the best if it is to change On 20/04/2010, Jacob Odada <jacob.odada@gmail.com> wrote:

In Aug'07 i was attacked by a mugger (is this an english word?) in Thome Estate. If u live in Kiambu/ridgeways area u musta heard of 1-man-guitar. The guy attacked me on my face with a panga and sent me halfway to kingdom come. When my mum went to the Kasarani cop station to report she was told ati OCS (or OCPD whatever the title is) had the OB she waited 2hrs to no avail. The report was done 2 days later. Of course she got the usual "mama u're late, by now the guy's long gone" crap. My family put a price on the guys head if they ever caught him or killed him. He was killed in Oct '08 The refused to act early enough, the guy was stupid enough to answer my cell if anyone called up to 24hrs after the incident. It wasn't until some relatives who were out of the country came back & decided to put prize money on the idiot's head that cops acted. Justice? Really? I don't know. If there was no prize money? I thinks its just a rotten system this our justice system On 4/20/10, Jared Koyier <jaredkoyier@gmail.com> wrote:

BTW, guys, all the above is incentive enough for us and our friends to register as voters and make sure that we vote wisely. Lets try making a difference.

Please take note of this(Very important). After the incident I've talked to several guys and this is one of the most shocking i got.Pleas red for your own good. "Never EVER compete with cops",they'll get you if they want to.My colleague was told this by his friend who works with the police force. One of the example he was given is what i want to share. If you drive, cops stop u and asks you to open the trunk(boot) of your car,PLEASE walk out and do so.This prestigious cars where you just pull the unlock lever while sitted on the comfortable drivers sit is messing p'ple. What happens is if you don't walk out, they put in stuff in your trunk,Bangh,Gun and Bullets(Or illegal stuff that they arrest p'ple with.)and lets you drive on.They take your reg no. and calls the next road block and as usual your asked to open the trunk again(U do as usual, pull the lever). The next thing you see is cops ordering you out of your car at Gun point and you wonder whats wrong? At 1st you even doubt that is your car, start thinking of whom had you given your car to use,car wash......"Tunajua hii vitu mko nazo, sasa unataka aje?twende mbele?"..And your response is obvious. Its good that there is still hopes that 'tomorrow' will be a different day.(We are caught up between cooperate with thugs as well as the police as long as you are in the net of either, but i think they share the same net :) ) Justice in Kenya is still wanting and have always been!!
