N-computing (Thin Client Technology)

Morning Skunkers, I would like to know if there is any member on the list who has used thin clients before in a call center setup before as compared to assigning a single PC to every user. Please share your thoughts and ideas, pros ,cons, the best solution to go for in-case one needs to implement this solution.

i think for that you will require and pretty capable application publishing software , like citrix or an open source alternative like ULTEO OVD , since the application will need to use the mic and headphone ports , also means u need a very strong application server probably a farm of servers , but maybe there is a call center vendor that got it all in a box On Wed, Dec 18, 2013 at 10:47 AM, wa <wanangu@gmail.com> wrote:

Get a powerful workstation like HP Z230 (the core i7 model) and fill it with RAM to max. It takes 32GB. Assuming you let the OS+Installed apps to take 8GB, you have 24GB to give to users. So assume each user takes 3GB for their operations, you can have 8 comfortable users, but that is even on the higher side as each user might require about 2GB depending on what they run... so 12 users hypothetically will be very comfortable. I am also assuming you will go for the N-Computing's L300 or the M-series... both should work very well. I have worked with the L-series (230 and 300) on WIndows 7 64-bit. I haven't done in WIndows 8 but shouldn't be so different. On 18 December 2013 10:47, wa <wanangu@gmail.com> wrote:

if you go for n-computing, make sure you get the originals. alot of fakes exist in the market. if you need to go beyond 10 to say to 30 you need to use a server os on the host. also consider the thin client offerings from hp + virtualization (VMware) Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

H Alex, Allow me to seek clarification on this since I've never gone above 10 devices/users. What would be the limitation on a non-Server OS? On 18 December 2013 11:48, Watila Alex <awatila@yahoo.co.uk> wrote:

@wash Am looking at serving 150 users at the same time, Wash according to your math i would need roughly 15 core i7 pc's. I am also considering the cost of implementing the solution or i just go for 150 PCs. Take into consideration am on windows platform running server 2008 R2 and windows 7 on client PC's. Based on the facts given, what would you recommend ? (taking cost into consideration) On Wed, Dec 18, 2013 at 12:06 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

It's cheaper to buy EX-UK PCs and also far much more reliable, am saying this through experience not reading some articles online! On Wed, Dec 18, 2013 at 12:52 PM, wa <wanangu@gmail.com> wrote:

Wanangu As Geofrey puts I would rather opt for Citrix for the number of users you are planning for, I have used Ncomputing before(cyber) but was not reliable, in your case requiring an enterprise solution you should probably opt for citrix. BR/ Antony....

Thanks guys, will take into consideration all the thoughts you have shared and make a sound decision. Meanwhile whoever has anything, the forum is still open. On Thu, Dec 19, 2013 at 9:02 PM, Antony Kimani <kimanianthoni@gmail.com>wrote:
