Safaricom stole my Ksh.16...should I sue?

Dear friends, Today I received the following SMS from $afaricon: "Browse at Ksh2/- per minute and enjoy FREE high speed 3G internet on Wednesday 25/5/2011 from 11pm to 11am. Dial *142# to activate, applicable only on PrePay" This message read like digital manna from heaven. I had an active line on PrePay and so that was already covered. All I had to do was do the *142# thingy so as to activate the service. I immediately received a confirmation message that I was now on the 2/- browsing service. I then made a list of all the "stuff" that I was going to download overnight so that I can have them by morning. I eagerly waited until 11.35pm (25-5-2011) and connected to the net. After surfing to a round 8 minutes, I got disconnected...what the *$%@ is going on? I asked myself... I checked my balance to see if my Ksh.16 was still there...lo and behold...it was all gone!!! I thought FREE means FREE... I am emotionally wounded and severely distressed:-( I am now going to bed... Safaricom stole my Ksh.16...should I sue? Timo.

Maybe www.Safaricon.co.ke was correct? Regard's Brian Ngure On 26 May 2011 00:20, "Timothy Mutugi" <timothymutugi@gmail.com> wrote:

Maybe you need to have been a previous customer and actually browsed at KES 2 per minute during chargeable hours to be eligible for the free offer. I am sure they have some small print somewhere. But using for KES 16 is cost more and waste your time. Call customer care first and listen to what they have to say.

@ Philip, I can confirm that I have been a customer and I have browsed the @ the 2/- rate on the same line very recently...na hakuna fine print anywhere... ...OK, called customer care and they told me that they they have no idea that there was such an offer... I have given up:-( On 5/26/11, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Guys, we have come to a conclusion that there is something wrong with the Safaricom data billing system... Just the other day, i bought a 25mb bundle for 20/- ; then I got into Google-maps on iPhone to navigate from Nakumatt Junction to a road after Nakumatt Prestige called Kabarnet Rd.. And guess what, even after the map had loaded, and I was just staring at the blue dot - my 20mb got finished before I arrived at destination - which is quite odd. Conclusion: I suspect that Safaricom charges for data handshake between the phone and the data core system; whereas they are supposed to charge for the actual payload received from the internet :: Which in a math chart, handshakes takes about 75% of data, while actual internet data delivered or sent is 5-15%:: be wary !!! Try Orange data service et al

When someone steals 16 bob from a million people he makes a cool 16 million WHAT A DEAL !!!!! On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 12:58 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

@John... 1. My problem was that Ksh. 16 was stolen from me (this is a lot of money for some of us because every shilling and cent counts). 2. My first aim for posting (at night) was so that other skunks and skunkettes can think twice before connecting between 11pm and 11 am, thinking that they are surfing for "FREE". 3. My second aim was to seek closure by broadcasting my predicament. That is better than bottling it up and letting it eat you from within. That can lead to ulcers and other maladies. 4. My third aim was to let $afaricon know that there is something very wrong if they can advertise a "FREE" offer and "forget" to activate it and even forget to tell their customer support that there is a "FREE" offer going on. Basically, that is called killing 4 birds with one skunk fart:-) Timo. On 5/26/11, Space-Networks <signal@space.co.ke> wrote:

@ndungu, handshakes takes about 75% of data, while actual internet data delivered or sent is 5-15% Is there a way of validating this? As far as I know, "handshake" (a.k.a control plane) is not even remotely comparable to data(user plane)...the handshakes hardly make a 10 bytes(and even that is an exaggeration), way before the billing system gets wind of your existence.. ./bernard On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 12:58 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

Allow me to play the devil's advocate here: After doing the *142#, did you actually browse at 2/- per min within a few moments of enrollment, or did you surf for the first time (after enrolling) during the offer window? That's not reflected in your account of events.

1. After *142# I got an sms telling me I am subscribed to the service. I definitely browsed a bit to check email kidogo, then some drudgereport.com and not forgetting skunkworks. I then checked my balance and that is why I knew I still had Ksh.16 in my account. 2. I then waited until 11.30 pm to start the "FREE" surfing... (that is well within the offer window) 3. Then my Ksh.16 was stolen. On 5/26/11, Tony Likhanga <tlikhanga@gmail.com> wrote:

Have guys never called customer care and the lady/guy on the other end tells you how you were running background services, and have malware that downloads 100 mb in 2 minutes yet you cant even get that speed as you browse? At one time was so mad I had to install some software to calculate payloads and check against data bundle balance... well gave up after three hours by saying to myself cr*p happens am not glued to a network. *_______________________________________________________________ its ok child, He's heard you * On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 5:47 PM, Timothy Mutugi <timothymutugi@gmail.com>wrote:

I tested this during last night's offer period with a line with zero credit. Worked like a charm!
