Hi all, I have a a dilemma guys, i have done my research on the net and still cant get the exact response that i need. We all know that sharepoint runs on the .NET version 3.5.....so what would happen if i installed .NET 4.0 on the server?? 1. would it replace and upgrade the .NET 3.5 already installed?...and if it did would it affect sharepoint negatively? I would guess not since am just doing an upgrade 2. would I be able to run different .NET versions on the same server, and just use different application pools in different web applications in IIS???? Any experts out there please help!!!!!

Depends on what version of sharepoint version you have installed. if its sharepoint 2007 installed it's .net 3.5 that can run on the platform but the machine can have 4.0 (backward compatibility maneno's) Sharepoint 2010 would support 4.0. It all boils down to what platform you have installed in your environment.

Sorry for the vague question...I have windows 2008 server R2 and sharepoint 2010 On Tue, Nov 20, 2012 at 12:00 PM, Daniel Ndeti <dantoz@gmail.com> wrote:

Then you already have .net 4.0 with a backward compatibility for 3.5 since sharepoint 2010 requires 4.5 for installation. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx#section4 On Tue, Nov 20, 2012 at 12:29 PM, Wanjohi Ndegwa <andegs2000@gmail.com>wrote:
