4G and Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) could be more expensive than envisaged; did the powers that be consider this issue? "The LTE [Long Term Evolution] spectrum, particularly on 800Mhz, overlaps part of the DTT spectrum," "The closer you are to a base station, the more disruptive the interference." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17125468

speaking of spectrum, the US is planning ahead. US broadband spectrum. <http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17122754> On Wed, Feb 22, 2012 at 7:40 PM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:

Thanks @Nicholas. The link I posted pertains to the UK, but my question (if it sounded ambiguous) was what is CCK et al doing to mitigate this eventuality since both technologies will be rolled out to the masses not far apart?

Mark, First question are they even aware? On Thu, Feb 23, 2012 at 11:24 AM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:

@Brian sadly I doubt this is the case. It sounds like the storyline of a typical Kenyan white elephant, to use more taxpayer funds to fix the problem instead of sorting it out early by doing the necessary frequency spectrum planning. IMO one hand does not know what the other is doing - anyone in a position to clarify?

It's not a must you use LTE at 800Mhz, the technology in 4G is spectrum flexible; you can refarm 900Mhz , 1.8Ghz or 2.1Ghz (like some MNOs are doing in Europe for 3G and LTE). Again you can use a frequency beyond 2.1Ghz. Locally I think CCK were speculating about the latter option, they have a somewhat dim clue about the whole thing. Also, when looking at mobile network technologies in this region, avoid American comparisons, here we tend to follow European standards, which are actually the real mobile standards. Americans always have variants of this or that technology.... On Thu, Feb 23, 2012 at 11:33 AM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:
