AccessKenya upgrades its internet core network

AccessKenya Group has upgraded its internet core network by ten times as it gears to handle the huge bandwidth capacity upon the arrival of the Seacom and Teams submarine cables. AceesKenya increased the internet core network from1000mb to 10000mb at a cost of Sh60 million. It is scaled to handle and best manage the large capacities of the international fibre cables and to ensure the core internet network is upgrade proofed for a number of years into the future. Additionally, the company has purchased 2500mb of capacity on the Seacom fibre optic cable, which together with a similar amount procured on the TEAMS cable will give it a total of 5000mb of capacity to offer significantly faster speeds to its customers. Currently, the entire country currently purchases 1,200mb on satellite. AccessKenya will therefore have more than 4 times the capacity that the whole of Kenya currently uses, and will retain its place as the largest bandwidth buyer in Kenya http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/Company%20Industry/-/539550/624928/-/u90n...

That explains all our troubles... I must admit they have much amass in terms of equipment, clientele and so on but they fail when it comes to customers care... a simple notice that services will be interrupted would have sufficed ...but i had to talk to 3 guys at support before i knew they were experiencing some technical difficulties. Anyway...Lets wait for these "speeds".. I can only imagine.... -- Best Regards Martin Maina C: +254726937792 , +254770147485 T: +254 0202465663 E: martinmur87@gmail.com W: http://martingeek.110mb.com

Great figures now have some idea of what the total kenyan bandwidth is. Japan seem to lead in that category the are talking terabits per second. On 7/16/09, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

I have major concerns with Accesskenya, it appears they are making tooth and nail effort to appear in step with the times with the "FIBER" bandwagon the come across as rather desperate. I take it comes with being a listed company, they seem to want to sound big and better than their predecessors. Take for instance the ongoing laying of fiber ducts HPVCs, I have seen drenching in as far as Nairobi west in some streets which I have no idea when they'll shoot the fiber let alone light it up. As if that's not enough, the quality of their civil works is appalling to say the least and seem to be in a hurry, and covering the trenches is haphazard and substandard, I pity the people who'll be maintaining the network. With them it seems "Image is everything, credibility can always be regained after you launch". I also have beef with how these trenches are covered up in such a disorganized/messy manner... ...leaves a lot to be desired... BR John
