Jeremiah, I personally feel the logical implementation of this project does not make sense. Why? Yes the systems work and are recording a lot of data.Big data will analyse patterns and everything analytics does(from this year onwards). Then what? Nothing to cross reference and match with!!.(simply you have a bunch of faces that commit a crime then you take 3 to 4 months going through registration files at the ministry of interior(national registry) looking for the name and details attached to that face......this guys are basically stuck in active. I think Ministry of interior should up their game -have a repository of (face, phone number,DNA,Finger prints) 1.Everybody with a phone number has a face---Use safaricom and get the face during registration. 2.Get all this data during 18+ registration 3.Get the updated details during the year of census. Plus proper legal framework for that data -last time i checked cctv data is not admissible in kenyan courts. Only then can we make sense of this!! On another note,The Berlin wall was built in 1961,Great wall of China B.C---We are seriously building a wall in 2015. NB:I am not negative, just realistic. Regards, David. . You are wrong on this. Contention only comes in if you transfer the electronic evidence from the original recording medium without following due process. Tony.

If I can remember, Safaricom was also to equip the police with smart devices equipped with cameras - which means that the police will need some new technology such as, perhaps, digitisation of the OB, security services, etc. Who are those tenders going to - or is GoK relying on Safaricom to do end to end? I hope they don’t wake up one day and cry the that the software to manage this data is not working. Remember Kidero’s cameras? 400 M shillings then we are told they don’t work cause of missing software! Only in Kenya. But what’s the point? If they mark my face committing a crime, where are they going to hunt for me? Do they keep bio data digitally? We should not de-link the will and spirit of law enforcement from these tech developments. Fighting crime, as with any task, requires the will of those involved. As in strong will. Technology should come as a tool to support or speed up the process. Tech should not be the one leading the fight If we are to rely on tech without changing the human factor - initiative, motivation, etc we may not go far. Case in point: There is a "face" going round in social networks of this "criminal" that jacked a guy along Waiyaki, huko Kikuyu. Chances are he's still roaming free. On Friday last week some politician in Nakuru shot at journalists. He's known and there is evidence. But he is probably not going to be arrested. There is simply no will to take action. Sometimes I feel the law enforcers put slightly more effort when under pressure. Like when the victim is a prominent person. The populace also needs to contribute to feel they'll be protected if they finger criminals. Disclaimer: Watched too much TV and "The first 48" episodes. I admire the zeal with which some of those guys work to close a case. They go the extra extra mile. On Mon, May 25, 2015 at 11:09 AM, George Matuthu via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Yes the systems work and are recording a lot of data.Big data will analyse patterns and everything analytics does(from this year onwards). Then what?
Nothing to cross reference and match with!!.(simply you have a bunch of faces that commit a crime then you take 3 to 4 months going through registration files at the ministry of interior(national registry) looking for the name and details attached to that face......this guys are basically stuck in active.
I think Ministry of interior should up their game -have a repository of (face, phone number,DNA,Finger prints)
1.Everybody with a phone number has a face---Use safaricom and get the face during registration.
2.Get all this data during 18+ registration
3.Get the updated details during the year of census.
Plus proper legal framework for that data -last time i checked cctv data is not admissible in kenyan courts.
Only then can we make sense of this!!

My biggest issue is not just having the cameras, we need to spearhead these efforts from all fronts. The police must be equipped to use such tech gadgets. How many Police stations have computers in Kenya? All reports are still made to an old book that no one can search or analyze. We are pushing the hands and forgetting the rest of the body. Being my taxes that will eventually pay for this, I have a say in it. Lets not forget what happened with Kideros flashy project. Get the system, but get the house in order. There's no use in having our pretty faces stored in a database that no one will ever peruse. On May 25, 2015 11:34 AM, "newton mbugua via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

The Kenyan way of doing things.. Did they have a team to intelligently design the security camera infrastructure. Their positioning of the backup n what not should have been learnt from thika rd highay lightin distribution or exchange nodes. Sadly the chinkus had to build a massive concrete lifted by a crane to protect the points. Safkom willl soon learn that n go back to plannin n investing thots on that project. I personally feel the logical implementation of this project does not make sense.
Why?
On another note,The Berlin wall was built in 1961,Great wall of China B.C---We are seriously building a wall in 2015.
NB:I am not negative,just realistic.
Regards,
David.

When there are no cameras, we complain When there are cameras, we complain Will we ever be satisfied? On Mon, May 25, 2015 at 11:09 AM, George Matuthu via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
I hope they don’t wake up one day and cry the that the software to manage this data is not working. Remember Kidero’s cameras? 400 M shillings then we are told they don’t work cause of missing software! Only in Kenya.
But what’s the point? If they mark my face committing a crime, where are they going to hunt for me? Do they keep bio data digitally?
*Best Regards,*
