Hello Mueni @php/Mysql you can use sessions and echo/print a statement like print "Logged in as <b>$_SESSION[username]</b>"; Holla for further assistance. -- Regards, SELECT REVERSE('aregnonc');

No offense, but from this post and your previous posts, am just wondering: is there any project you can complete on your own? -- Lidede A. @eugene am just wondering how you can tell whether or not there is a project she can complete on her own? Coz logic tells me that if there was a project she has completed on her own then she wouldnt need to post a query here. As far as we know or dont know, Maybe she's completed 100 projects on her own and is stuck with only 3 or so she has posted here. Besides off the top of my head am sure I too can come up with a bunch of stuff you'd have no clue of how to get it worked out. @mueni keep asking Steve Obbayi, info@sobbayi.com http://www.sobbayi.com -----Original Message----- From: skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke [mailto:skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke] On Behalf Of Chris Mwirigi Sent: Monday, April 06, 2009 11:19 AM To: Skunkworks forum Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] mobile technology @eugene that was uncalled for, skunkworks is a forum to exchange ideas, not to get personal. @mueni try kannel using cygwin on m$, or just mv to linux its much easier. 2009/4/6 imelda Mueni <mueni0@gmail.com>:

Dont we wish sometimes we could recall silly emails we have sent. Imelda use kannel or you can look for scripts that interface with modem's AT commands. There are a couple out there. Hi, If all you need is to send an SMS when a user logs in, then a GSM modem, a serial library for your programming language and a standard AT command reference is all you need. A function like this should run immediately after creating the session; def sendSMS(number, message): import serial hook = serial.Serial('COM1', 115200) hook.write('ATZ\r') hook.write('AT+CMGF=1\r') hook.write('AT+CSCA="+254722500029"') hook.write('AT+CMGS="%s"' % number) hook.write(message+'\n') hook.write(chr(26)) hook.close() On Tue, Apr 7, 2009 at 7:52 PM, Daudi Were <daudi.were@gmail.com> wrote:

Neva read a rant like this for quite some time. This is well written and deserved. Good stuff. As for Mueni, keep asking all you want.
-- "There's no better gift than to do something that you love to do, and being good at it "

I think what Lidede is trying to say is that it has to come out that you have done at least some research on your own and have some idea and direction of what you want to do, so that when you ask, you are very specific on what you are asking eg. "How do I build a website to accept a login and send an sms to confirm?" And "I'm running my website on a xampp and have the database and web pages in place. Im looking at how to send sms messages automatically from my debian linux server. I have looked at several GSM modems (both usb and serial) but cannot find out how to use it on linux. Can someone point me to a GSM modem and some basic scripting I can use to send an sms through it?" Are two very different questions, one might show that you haven't done any research at all, and the other shows that you have actually done something and you are stuck at some point, I think the second one would receive more replys than the first... @ Mueni what i get is that u need to send an sms to the user after login or registration. If thast the case then you must talk to the sms services providers eg clikatell or kenyan true african or cellulant kemya they will offer u a service where by u can just pass the parameters and the forwarding of smses is done by them. For more information you can drop me a mail For the others askin doesnt mean you are stupid and posting hia is a form of googling so if u dont want to offer answers or opinions please step out On Tue, Apr 7, 2009 at 2:55 PM, Jangita <jangita@jangita.com> wrote:

Hi Imelda, I asssume that you are bent on trying out some sort of DIY/hobby project. This said, then your implementation will depend upon what you choose: The options are; 1. To have a software only implementation 2. To have a software+hardware implementation For choice 1 ************ Think along the lines of kannel, hard-coding using a language of your choice and going the clickatell & cellulant way as Timothy says. Alternatively you may cut the chase (and the budget too) by simulating the "message sent" part. ( This kills the Kick) For choice 2 ************ You'll need to Develop the login interface or do a bit of code "pimping" on whatever u'll use. Then look at modem hardware interfacing (a phone will do here). You can then either branch into AT commands or use tools like Toxygen or Kylix (I highly recommend this. Hope they still offer the tool as a download option)

I've tried to resist commenting on this thread but can no longer! Thank you Imelda for asking your question, it has saved me alot of googling for a project I had in mind. This mailing list serves a potential niche which we can/should all exploit since google et. al. is loaded with solutions which may not primarily serve us local developers. Take for example, knowing that cellulant offer PRSP Services, would be hard to come by via the search engine. Again, thank you all. Regards, On 4/7/09, Billy <billyx5@gmail.com> wrote:
