Network Fails on windows XP

Hi Guys, I have this pc running on Win XP SP 2; The user uses outlook express and skype for most of the tasks. Network drives are accesible just fine. but skype will often fail to sigh in and if it does it wont be able to send messages, Outlook Express does the same. these two apps eventually work when you diable nd enable the network adapter/ connection or unplug and plug back the network cable... or restart the machine. The network is content filtered by DansGuardian running on a linux server, i checked with the ISP guys and the IP address on this machine is limited but allowed outlook and skype acess, there are several other machines on the network with the same limits but are working fine. Any ideas?? Maina Muraguri.

Check the type of NIC coz ua problem seems to be hardware based. Is the card loose at some point, cloned(poor manufacturing) or has been in use for 'ages'? With xp ua problem is narrowed down to that as far as i knw, on linux it would b varied. God bless u! On 6/9/09, Martin Muraguri <martinmur87@gmail.com> wrote:

Sometimes skype blocks some ports e.g port 80. THis can be noticeable when you run a local http server like apache. Next time it mibehaves, switch skype off and restart the other softwares. If thats the solution, configure skype not to start automatically, then start it after everything else has started. On Tue, Jun 9, 2009 at 8:57 PM, nyarotho kennedy <kenyarotho@gmail.com>wrote:

Thanx Ken, That might be the problem .. the pc has been in use for some time although the pc is a branded hp and the quality is good. Frank, quiting skype and starting it after other softwares have started; solves this problem but only temporalily, I unchecked an option in skypes connection settings that says somrthing like ..change ports... The problem stopped but after a few days ... a week rather.. its back... Skpye must be causing this mayhem ..maybe the user checked that option again, Thanx again guys.
