What is the best phone/gadget for a Kenyan field Journalist??

Ok. I am thinking of those nasty situations when a journalist is roughed up because of taking a photo/video of an incident, the camera is confiscated and film destroyed or tape erased by the you-know-who (not that I am scared on naming names, but it can be anyone!) I suppose there are phones and/or apps which when used together can beat the nasty guys to their game. Something like a photo/video is uploaded to the web in realtime as it is being taken. I want such a device and I know you geeks know the answer. Please take your time to think about this before responding with a suggestion. I better people don't respond if they have no clue, please. Thanking you guys in advance. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler.

I hate being the one vouching for Windows phone when I get quite some issues using it. Am currently using a HTC HD2, it's not what you get with Android phones like the Galaxy S III (experience and all), but you have an option to get all images, videos and files sync with your skydrive account in realtime, that is ofcourse you are willing to pay the data costs this exposes you, and that you get a fast connection, true 3G. I am not sure I have explored all options, but I dont know what that could compare with on other platforms, well iCloud on iPhone 4s could. But I havent used an iPhone to be able to comment. ION Samsung is working on S Cloud and LG with their cloud. 7 cents On Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 11:14 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

I phone works would be great With a good connection to internet, you can share videos via drop box, write comprehensive news on a note and email the note, as opposed to what I see with news gatherers where they sms the newsroom Also you can take photos, attach to email and add a story to it , so that the web publishers stops having a mix up Thanks Oscar From: skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke [mailto:skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke] On Behalf Of amanya Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2012 12:02 PM To: Skunkworks Mailing List Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] What is the best phone/gadget for a Kenyan field Journalist?? on Android this can be done with dropbox but that's not foolproof. as long as I can see the gadget, i will a) not open up or b) destroy it. miniature cameras with huge storage are what are used. think jicho pevu On Jul 26, 2012 11:47 AM, "Martin Gicheru" <martin@techweez.com> wrote: I hate being the one vouching for Windows phone when I get quite some issues using it. Washington, the option for Skydrive and Google plus is about the same, I come to realize. But I have a problem with using Google+ as an option, deleting the images if you want to might be an issue, I dont see a delete option in there. With Skydrive I have not seen a option to limit access to the files and delete, unless you want your device not to remember windows live ID and password, in which case the files wont sync anyway. Microsoft sharepoint on the other hand, is an enterprise solution and promises more security, lemme seek more information about the security procedures and get back to you.

Im immediately taken to facetime for IOS. If you can record a facetime conversation on the other end, I have a feeling you would be ok. Which , come to think of it would just require any smartphone, a good video call app and a recording app on the other end of the call.... How is that @wash? Thanks, Martin. This sounds like a good clue. But suppose the you-know-who can click a button that instantly wipes the contents of the skydrive, or how does the phone's feature protect against that? On Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 11:46 AM, Martin Gicheru <martin@techweez.com>wrote:

I am not sure I have explored all options, but I dont know what that could compare with on other platforms, well iCloud on iPhone 4s could. But I havent used an iPhone to be able to comment. ION Samsung is working on S Cloud and LG with their cloud.

I suppose there are phones and/or apps which when used together can beat the nasty guys to their game.
Something like a photo/video is uploaded to the web in realtime as it is being taken.
I want such a device and I know you geeks know the answer.
Please take your time to think about this before responding with a suggestion. I better people don't respond if they have no clue, please.
Thanking you guys in advance.

Google+ App for android has the option of instant upload of photos that you are taking. Data consumption though. On Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 12:10 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

A good pair of high-speed running shoes can also solve the problem .. especially in areas where there isnt enough network coverage and the only way to transport the photo / video .. is to run for your dear life .. holding the device...
