Hi All, So last week, I succumbed to the OS 4 charm and upgraded my iPhone 3GS. Initially, everything went on very well until a few hours later when i realized that my battery life has gone from almost 24 hours to just around 6. I tried everything, from disabling 3G and shutting down all background applications but this did not work. So finally, I re-installed and all seemed fixed but only for a few days before my battery woes reappear. This morning I took the dive to OS 4.0.1 and I am still Synchronizing and will give updates tomorrow. All devices except iPhone 4 can now be *Jail-broken* and *Unlocked*. iPhone 4 can only *Jail-broken*. So, anyone here running a 3GS on iPhone 4? I would love to hear your experiences on the battery life after upgrading.

3gs and Iphone 4 are both hardware and so none can run on the other. On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 1:22 PM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

That is what am replying to. 3Gs and Iphone 4 are both Iphone hardware and Software are in 2,3 and 4 series so Iphone 4 cannot be run on Iphone 3Gs since they are both names of the physical phone. Mean OS 4. Did you upgrade to OS 4 on 3GS? I have been having issues with the battery since I did.

3GS will have battery problem with OS 4. Avoid it On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 1:54 PM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Not true. You can run the IOS 4 on a 3GS and even a 3G although for the latter you may have some performance problems. On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 1:46 PM, Theus Owicho <owichot@gmail.com> wrote:

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS4 and had to downgrade like after 1 day - pathetic performance such that the phone responds to keystrokes after 2-4 seconds. Its a no-no on 3G, although on 3Gs, the degradation is much less ./Ok3ch On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 2:38 PM, Rad! <conradakunga@gmail.com> wrote:

Performance wise, the OS 4 seems very good on 3GS. Now the issue with battery life seem isolated, with some finding 'increased' battery life and other finding degraded battery life. It seems to be a OS 4 issue or all that multi-tasking but I am still trying to nail culprit. I already upgraded to 4.0.1 and so far so good as far as the battery is concerned. The only visible difference between OS 4 and OS 4.0.1 is the signal bars are longer, but I have not seen anything else. The Baseband does not change. I am hoping this sort my battery issue. I have charged to 100% an hour ago and I am still on 100% but on Standby. With OS 4, I was getting a drop of 1% every 3 or 4 minutes even on Standby.

From what I gather a major culprit of performance degradation for iOS 4 on a 3G is spotlight. Should you wish to try again make sure you configure spotlight to only search contacts and applications.

Theus, Given that my phone is in fact an iPhone, it is difficult for me not to be a heavy user. It is not only my phone it is also my iPod, mail client and car stereo. Absolutely they are performance problems, especially for the 3G. But I have been very happy so far with the 3GS On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 5:32 PM, Theus Owicho <owichot@gmail.com> wrote:

I need to put my 2 cents in here. I've updated to 4.0 and also hacked. When i hacked, i enabled the multithread tech and it slowed down dramatically. Removed the mutli and now it's faster then before. I'm enjoying using it. Maybe i've configured something differently but it's working good. watchman On 8/3/10 5:41 PM, Rad! wrote:
