I am looking for use case scenarios for Ubunu's bash shell on Windows 10. I could be missing something, but just having the bash shell on Windows does very little to me (in my mind so far). I need tools to manipulate files. I also hope it can help me do away with (partly) putty/shellguard for SSH sessions to remote servers. I haven't personally used it, but it looks like you'll basically get a "mini" Ubuntu inside of Windows, including the ability to install Ubuntu packages using APT. And they also say they're targeting it at developers (as opposed to for deployment), so that should give you an idea of where they plan to go, at least in the beginning. Any word on how it works with hardware ? Eg. plugging in a usb flash disk, printer, phone etc and then looking at the output of lsusb . Is it as though you were running linux kernel on the machineor does it behave like a VM. When I plug in a flash disk, it doesn't even see show like it sees it. The bash shell has connection to the Internet (probably via some bridging mode) although I can't see the virtual adapter listed with my network interfaces. Maybe a virtual switch? Bash on Windows. I believe there are other tools to achieve this as well.
