Hi guys, I was just wondering whether there could be anyone on the list who has prolly used the Anti-SPAM SMTP Proxy. I would like to know how good it is. I wish to run it on Windows 2003 Server with MDaemon. Me.

Is it Free? Could you please give a url link to it so that we can see the features? I haven't used it, but the last time I checked MDaemon had very good spam filtering internally. It only needed someone who understand spam filtering to tune it. What needed to be added was virus filtering engine, which altn.com also sells. Even Barracuda needs tuning. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

Hi Wash, I'm Sorry I forgot to paste the link, but it'll prolly top your google results and it's FOSS. Perhaps I should tweak my MD more but already I do get false +ves due to RBL'd mail servers for some local ISPs. The AV engine as you say is just bells and whistles if u ask me. It uses Kaspersky defns but doesnt seem to detect malware. So I integrated my MD with Clamwin and still viruses got thru. That's y I'm trying a third option. Me. Hi Simon, I just checked the link and I must say I tested this thing some years back and it was such a pain to make work right, but again I perhaps either did not have enough time on my hands then or was simply not motivated by it's features. Are you looking for an antivirus to integrate MDaemon with or an antispam? You are talking about ASSP (Spam Filtering) as well as a requirement for Virus filtering. I can tell you one thing that is for sure: Ditch Mdaemon and install a Unix box, install either Exim or Postfix. Install SpamAssassin and Clamav and integrate them. You will have a much more effective, flexible system than MDaemon - Free of charge. If you chose Exim contact me offlist and I will do my best to help you with the setup and everything to ensure you are running. If you choose postfix, there are also resources that are very useful. Clamwin is a desktop scanner, much more suited for the MuA than the MTA. @SSP is a monster to run on Windows, ama kuna MDaemon for Unix?:) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

Hahaha.. MDaemon for UNIX? I've been thinking of having a Unix mail server, but my boss would be reluctant coz the box running MD has another number of services such as internet proxy and a cheque ordering system's MySQL DB, which we can all have obn Linux, but I know he'd have cold feet. i am very much for the Linux box idea which reminds me.. I've been thinking of creating a Linux VM with exactly the same services... somewhat like a prototype and after testing... migrate the installation to the real server. Question is: Is there a way you can "copy" a VM to a real machine? Like the way ghosting works? Or will I have to install Linux on the box, install all the packages then copy the conf files... What do you think? On 2 September 2010 15:34, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I am currently running PC-BSD, FreeBSD and TrixBox all on VMware workstation. If I wanted to move one out of the VM, I'd simply install a "minimal" real machine and use dump/restore from any of them to populate the real machine. But you can also just bump up the RAM on this machine you have and install VMWare wkstn and install your choice of *nix inside. All you have to do is to put the VM network into a NAT mode, so that it shares the physical address with the host machine. However, at the initial stages, you can put it in bridged mode, so that it has it's own IP address for testing, then later change that. Once you are sure the apps are running as expected and you have laid down a thought out migration strategy, then you can switch to the VMized server. I can help you with the "thinking" if you want. A choice of Exim+MySQL+SpamAssassin+Clamav with a web front-end is cool. Dovecot-2.0.x for POP3/IMAP4.
