Introductions & Ubuntu Question. (8.0.4)
Hello guys, new to this forum, so if what i ask has been asked, pardon me and direct me somwehere. Question: I have Ubuntu, been working on saf and zain using wvdial and was working smoothly. Now I moved where i can access the Orange wireless thing and the speeds are not the only thing that appeal. (who can ignore the 1bob per MB deal), so anyway, I plug in the modem, run lsusb and i see the Orange device is seen, then try wvdialconf and im told there is no modem. Is there anyone who has successfully managed to configure this who can give me some direction? Device keeps mounting it as a storage device and I cannot Basics: Name : Collins Areba. Collins, The Orange modem does something called mode-switching (USB Mode switching) because it is a switchable USB device. The modem operates like a flip-flop thus need for a software tool to do the switching (wvdial does not do this). Thus, to connect to is, you will need a module called usb_modeswitch, it is available on http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/. Also if you want a tool similar to the one set-up in windows, install a tool called UMTSMon (http://umtsmon.sourceforge.net). All the best.
