i believe its being mainly used as a CASE tool for automatic code generation using things lie Poseidon and Rational Enterprise however, experience has been mixed -- for a large system a UML diagram can quickly become un-understandable -- and the automatic code generation isnt really solving problems in many cases. (Also availability of open source UML software is a problem) tread carefully.

I tend to disagree. I've explored ArgoUML (http://argouml.tigris.org) and I'm also sure there's something going on with the Eclipse. On Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 11:48 AM, <ashok+skunkworks@parliaments.info> wrote:

Tried using that sometime back ... but it really wasnt usable for the scenario i wanted to use it for. I know some people have been able to use it for their requirements.

Separation of diagrams in UML is quite a task if you have limited knowledge in object orientation. We find Use case a good way for high level information gathering. The rest of the detail depend on the level of modeling that u want to achieve. Some of these tools can be useful, Embarcadero RAD studio C++Builder JBuilder Embacadero Delphi Oj. Hi Sam/ Skunks, I'd say the UML notation I value and use most is the Class Diagram. Usually I try to keep this as simple as possible, though this can be tricky with larger/ more complex systems. I also use Use Cases to help me understand/ describe system requirements. IMHO UML is great for software documentation and systems analysis and its worth a learn.
