Hi Sam/ Skunks,
 I'd say the UML notation I value and use most is the Class Diagram. Usually I try to keep this as simple as possible, though this can be tricky with larger/ more complex systems. I also use Use Cases to help me understand/ describe system requirements. IMHO UML is great for software documentation and systems analysis and its worth a learn.
