Can't say I have hit the road yet..:) ..but an experienced web developer at skype once told me, that it gets monotonous everyday behind some 19'' monitor writing code...I guess interests change some times..that's most IT paps.. after the experience, may become professors or be involved in some community building projects... No but Ive hit the exhaustion point once where you stress your body so much it cant take anymore. I started having migraines and got blurred vision and couldn't focus my eyes without pain. Was recommended specs and some seriously powerful painkillers. However, the doc also told me I was suffering from physical stress. The moment I knew that, I realized my problem and took off for a 2 week non geeky rest. My eyesight came back, migraines disappeared and everything normalized. So whenever these symptoms start up, I always back off. On Thu, Mar 10, 2011 at 11:45 AM, John Adams <adams.opiyo@gmail.com> wrote:

I think am on my way out - given myself a target of 4 years and I'll be out! I intend to be a user though. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Mar 10, 2011 at 12:06 PM, yonny mutai <yonnym@googlemail.com> wrote:

I have been in a situation where I almost literally walked out of my job, but not my career. The stress level was so high that at one particular month, I spent over 13 hours each day consecutively including weekends, at the work place. I love my job and all, more than anything else. But sometimes it reaches a point where your current job sucks out the fun you derive from your work, not to mention health issues. I had to make a choice, and eventually I left that place to have ample time to focus on my own projects and business ... in IT ofcourse. If I find myself in risk of burning out, I simply detach myself from active IT altogether and do something else like watch silly cartoons, movies, or even get out of the city ... without my Kate (My laptop). What you all have to admit is that, at some point in your career, you will experience burnout. Regardless of how much you love your job, there will come a time when you just don't feel like doing it anymore, and would rather stay home or do something else. Do take a rest and avoid carrying your work home with you.
