Can't they just stand up and ask for assistance (from skunkworks) on sizing and setting up mail servers for their clients? I am sure we can give free advise on that, given that there is already so much free tutorials on the same in the wild (Internet). Ama they should simply sit down with Google and discuss a deal. Install and secure an MTA (throttle SMTP sessions at a certain value, do spam checks, limit relay to your client IPs) 5. and you can redirect the smtp.jambo.co.ke to your server as you sort out the migration. bottom line run your dns. If you're not you can force a redirect from the edge routers. ie ask someone here if they can handle your clients smtp as you sort out your dns and smtp. Its really very simple:
1. Register a domain name 2. Get a static IP 3. Get a PTR record for the (2) above pointing to (1) above 4. Install and secure an MTA (throttle SMTP sessions at a certain value, do spam checks, limit relay to your client IPs) 5. Configure your clients to relay through this (4) above - after all they are your clients, right?

I have no specific interest in jambo.co.ke, except that I manage a mailing list somewhere which has subscribers with this domain suffix and I had to check for something on Sunday to see why things were not happening as they should.
Anyway, I suggest you show up at their offices (if you know where it is) and demand "haki yetu!!!". AFAIAC, they can go to hell.
There is Safaricom Hosting and even better still, Google Apps. The former looks quite affordable although I haven't used them myself.
If push comes to shove for you, domain transfer/change of DNS records takes quite a short time for .KEs and about 72hrs for gTLDs. Just start transferring your domains to other service providers.

If these customers are within your $NETWORK and use your DNS servers or you can redirect DNS queries, then just have a simple entry in your hosts files to resolve to the IP if you know it. Coz its possible only the domain is down and not the IP. WIlson./
