M-Pesa Upgrade : I am a typical Kenyan

Now that M-Pesa system was upgraded successfully, what are the new benefits it introduced? I don't keep a single contact on the SIM card, and I don't intend to. All my contacts are in phone memory. Do I have to save those contacts to whom I send pesa on the SIM card for me to use the "lookup" facility? Aren't the developers good enough to make the lookup use phone memory-based contacts? ;-) Ok. What else did they introduce with the upgrade? Just the lookup and improved transaction capacity or is there another? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

@ Wash !! you are sure the lookup facility is working on simcard ? though almost all my contacts are on phone memory too :-( On Tue, Nov 30, 2010 at 2:42 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I thought you had to a do a SIM replacement, or something as rediculous as that to get lookup facility? ./Ok3ch On Tue, Nov 30, 2010 at 4:11 PM, Alvin Jason Ochieng <ajochola@gmail.com> wrote:

The sim contact look up was there even before the upgrade. I don't think the upgrade was on the frontend but on the backend On Tue, Nov 30, 2010 at 4:28 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

Hence my question: What exactly did they upgrade that is supposed to be visible to the customer? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

Wash; Av always accessed my contacts from M-Pesa menu. I never type on a separate sheet. So I don't understand why they are upgrading unless they developed an api to help me access my Equity or Coop account. On Tue, Nov 30, 2010 at 4:59 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

It was a waste of time. They are still experiencing delays even during off peak hours. I still believe MPESA on friday is a no no! I did an upgrade of the sim n as much as it has the functionality "Search SIM Contacts" it always gives the "No Match Found!" Probably it was programmed to respond that way ONLY! From waht I have gathered, M-PESA is restricted cause its owned by Vodafone, hence you may not be seeing an API cause Safaricom have no say in that. _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke

Yesterday (30th Nov 2010) at around 8pm I wanted some money urgently. I was around Antonios so I figured out I could try getting some pesa via the Equity ATMs near that place. When I went through the process of getting the AUTH Key, I got the message that "M-Pesa ix experiencing problems and I should wait for blah blah before trying again" It is now almost 1 day since that activity and no message from M-Pesa giving me the Auth Key:-) Someone told me yesterday that the process through Equity ATMs takes so much time, that I should expect the Auth key even after midnight. Now, thinking the upgrade was suppose to address such skepticism with the service, I want to ask again - What did Safaricom's M-Pesa upgrade meant to address, that a client can "feel"? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

Wash; Buying a new sim always mean't Mpesa could be able to read the "sim contacts". Mine reads without this upgrade for as long as I can remember. I always doubt what the press gives as news. I expected some real news. This is not news as I have been accessing my contacts from Mpesa for so long ... before they messed up the system. The official news from the company is a brief press release informing us what we know, that M-PESA was upgraded.

@Alvin, If you do SIM replacement (@KES 50) and get the new SIM cards, you will have that lookup facility. I cannot test it coz I am not gonna have any contacts on the SIM card. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!
