I expect zero support for this suggestion but here it goes: Is it possible to set up a state of the art a/v teleconferencing solution for our public officials? This will save Kenya lots of cash otherwise spent on unnecessary travels abroad. For instance the PM didnt have to go all the way to Turkey to discuss Somalia. He could have just skyped. (Gifts can be sent via DHL)

Such things wont happen unless we push the same as tax payers. Any public servant will tell you that they are not in the business of saving money - they spend what is allocated to them. They are allocated what they request during the budgeting process. This money belongs to you and me and thats why we should shout and make noise when our money is not spent wisely. But for the majority of us, its ok since we think that its Government money. Government does not have money. Its your money. Yes, the government does not have money, but we give it our money for safe custody. Because of the good will from the citizens, the government MUST make sure the money is used for uplifting the social well-being of Kenyans. On 12 June 2012 14:39, Evans Ikua <ikua.evans@gmail.com> wrote:

They do have these A/V teleconferencing facilities, I believe. Telkom/Orange was at some point setting these up for interlinks between govt offices (I could be wrong). Let's face it - why do out MPs (all working from NBI) all fly/drive to congregate at MSA (using public funds) for a conference? Isn't KICC a good (& of int'l stds) conference facility? Aren't there hotels in NBI (Serena, Lyco, etc)?? As @Ikua intimates, these govt officers are not in the business of saving money. You will hear the "govt" doesn't have funds and think it is anything - sheer nonsense! I believe it is time we as tax payers start pushing for services and against unnecessary govt spending and extravagance. The question is where do we start???? As you can see, you have my vote. Where do we start? "OCCUPY PARLIAMENT ROAD". I'm not kidding. On 6/12/12, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I believe you have not studied your problem well. The Government officials want to even travel more. In fact , other countries are having trouble hosting our Govt. officials http://standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000058746&story_title=15%20foreign%20...

Very-very good question, tech list Kenya. Martin. On 6/12/12, Tech List Kenya <techlistkenya@gmail.com> wrote:

The problem with this and other issues we face as Kenyans is execution of ideas/solutions provided. We all know what needs to be done. But the ones who are supposed to enforce them will not coz it will eat into their pocket money. Kenyans really need to get it that there is no such thing as government money. Ever. Grants from US, Japan, etc will be paid for by someone. As @Evans said, you and me. Maybe thats a start. Educate Kenyans to be selfish with their money.
